The self-guided historical tour of Maitland Gaol is very interesting, allow about 1 1/2 hours to complete. It is quite a sobering experience to enter the cells, which have been left in much the same condition as when they were inhabited by inmates. The architecture and design is very typical of the period and and visitors can understand the harsh environment inside the gaol, many of the cells were fully exposed to the prevailing weather conditions.

I have now been to this location a couple of times.
Maitland Gaol is a great place for paranormal enthusiasts.
Arrange a private tour/investigation or join in on an event group night.
Get to see gadgets in use to detect any paranormal activity.
Worth the time for spooky stuff.

Very impressed with the kids matinee movies run at the gaol. They provide bean bags, nibblies are about $3, it's warm and great kids movies. In our case, Ice Age. Will be back!

We learned a lot visiting this old gaol, which was operational until 1997. They had a children friendly tour, where the kids made a little inmate peg doll before checking out the surrounds. The tour was really appropriate for children - informative but not too grizzly in the details. There is a beautiful little cafe attached that does its own baking - was surprised at how lovely it was.

What a great experience.
So much history here. We loved the self guided tour, and will be traveling back to Maitland to do the torch light tour.

Be sure to allow a full 2 hours to complete the self guided tour, this way you are not rushed, and it will allow you to take photos and take in the surroundings at a good pace..

Last admission is at 3pm, and they promptly shut at 4pm.

Great way to spend a few hours.
