We have just had a week at the Solplay and it is an excellent hotel. We had a two bedroom suite, which was huge. As well as the two bedrooms, there were two bathrooms, one with bath and one with shower. There was a large living, dining and kitchen area and a huge balcony, that could be accessed from the main room and the two bedrooms. The balcony has a table and chairs and loungers.
The facilities at the hotel are excellent. Not only are there large indoor and outdoor pools, there is a also a very well fitted gym. The restaurant serves good quality meals. There is a standard menu and a buffet style dinner every other night. The buffet includes a mix of cold fodds, two choices of hot meals, soup, a wide range of desserts and juices. At 17 euro, it is excellent value. Snacks and smaller meals can be bought in the bar. The steak sandwich at 9.50 euro was good value.
However, what makes this hotel, is the sheer friendliness and professionalism of the staff. We couldn't fault any of them.
I couldn't decide whether to award the Solplay, four or five stars, but decided on five as I have judged the hotel rather than its location. There is nothing wrong with Linda a Velha, it's just that there is nothing to do in the immedaite vicinity of the hotel. If you are happy to make use of facilties and to eat at the hotel each evening that's fine. Personally, we would have liked to be able to walk to some good quality restaurants. Notwithstanding this, the hotel provides an excellent free shuttle bus service. This can take you into Lisbon, whre you can stay for 6 hours, or to Estoril for the beaches, where again you can stay for around 6 hours. We used the service a number of times, occasionally only one way, prefering the flexibility of making our way back by train (and then a 15-20 minute walk). It's worth mentioning the train, as the services are regular and only cost 3 euro to Lisbon or Estoril return, 1.95 euro one way.
The whole family loved the Solplay, but just wished that there was more to see and do in the immediate area.
