“A unique property, but not as good as it could be...”

This is a unique and charming property and I suspect there won’t be many like this available to rent on Tenerife. When we arrived in Tenerife we had to call Angelina from the airport to make arrangements to get access to the property. We then had go into a local café to ask for her, then wait until she arrived. However, Angelina spoke excellent English, and was very friendly and helpful. We got a taxi from the airport which cost around 40 euros. Many original features remain in the property, one of which being the internal staircase that in a sense is also external – it’s open to the elements as there is purposely no roof over the staircase. There are benefits to this design, keeping the ground floor bedrooms and bathroom cool during the day, and it was pleasant to hear the waves while lying in bed at night. However, the downsides were at night when the bedrooms and bathroom became too cool for my liking and there was only one heater in the entire property. In addition any noise from the town square, day and night, reverberated right down the stairs, meaning it was noisy in the two bedrooms. Sadly the property had been flooded not so long ago due to heavy rains. Although there were no obvious signs of flooding, the ground floor bedrooms smelt heavily of dampness which was very unpleasant. The roof terrace has a small table & 4 chairs and a couple of sunbeds. Unfortunately the large parasol was broken, and a very small beach parasol didn’t have a base to place it in, leaving us without shade. The roof terrace gives a nice view to the sea and town square, but is much overlooked so don’t expect privacy! The property is surrounded by cafes on both sides, for which the smell of fried food wafted up to the roof terrace for most of the day. There is also a children’s play park right next to the property, with swings that desperately need oiled – you can imagine how annoying the incessant squeaking got! The kitchen had a good sized fridge freezer but we didn’t do any cooking so can’t comment on how well equipped it was. There were very small ants in the kitchen and this needs addressed. The bathroom was a bit dusty and although the towels smelt clean, most were heavily stained and need replaced. The double bed was comfortable but all 4 pillows in both bedrooms were very flat and also need replaced. Due to the concrete staircase and steepness of it in parts, in my opinion this property isn’t suitable for the very young/infirm/very unfit. All in all, this property wasn’t for us so after 2 nights we decided to relocate despite having paid for 7 nights. Finally, beware of the price advertised on Trip Advisor. We initially booked for 2 adults, but noticed the price was the same for 4 adults. So we later invited a couple of friends to holiday with us, and out of courtesy I let Rok (the stated property owner at the time of booking) know there were going to be 4 adults staying in the property. He stated that would be an extra 50 euros per night, which I felt excessive and unfair given that the advertised price didn’t change regardless of how many adults were staying. And with hindsight, I can’t believe he had the audacity to charge an extra 350 euros to stay in a damp, cold & noisy bedroom. The local area/town was nice and had a super promenade, along with some good restaurants.

Dear Miss Jill
Thank you for stating your opinion about your experience.
At the time you purchased a special offer that we had for 2 people only. later you tried to add your friends for free with the excuse that the Villa is large. We could not allow you to do so for that price and asked you for a little extra charge if you were to lodge your friends as well. Unfortunately you got mad and decided to write this review. Fortunately there are many more reviews of clients that understand traveling.
Thank you much

We were really sad when we had to leave this lovely cottage when our holidays were over... We loved the typical canarian ambience of the house, the antique paving tiles and the open staircase. Situated between the village square and the ocean, some nice cafes, a great restaurant and a supermarket are just next door...
The roof-deck is absolutely amazing: We enjoyed very much having breakfast or a glass of wine up there and look over the sea up to La Gomera - or turning around and have a look onto the white summit of the Teide.
Mondays, you maybe wake up wondering whats up at the square - and you´ll find a market just in front of your door...
