Inn by the Lake is AAA rated as a 3-star, BUT the room we had was far from 3-star. Maybe a 2-star. The room was very small with only 1 bed. The carpeting needed to be replaced and was dirty around the walls. The bathroom had linoleum floors instead of tile. We will NOT stay there again as the price did not reflect the type of room that we had.

Please accept our sincere apologies for any deficiencies you may of incountered in one of our standard queen non-view rooms. There is never an excuse for a lack of cleanliness. However, after a busy summer, we are in the mist of our Fall heavy cleaning program and if we missed this before, we will catch it now. Thank you for writing.
Best Regards,
Dan

Inn by the Lake is very centrally located with a friendly, helpful staff. The room was comfortable and clean. However, our first room was #345 and located directly beneath an insanely noisy compressor that kept us awake ALL night long. The morning after we complained to the front desk and they moved us to a room on the second floor. Much quieter and in all likelihood we would return. The best part of staying here was the recommendation from the young man at the desk to eat at MacDuff's which is next door. Amazing food and a wonderful crew.

Inn by the Lake was a good find on hotels.com. It provided a clean, quiet and enjoyable stay in the south lake tahoe area and very easy access driving in from the bay area. I found it to be very peaceful, and the room was LARGE with a lake view and a small patio. Loved the fridge, microwave and bar sink as well. Had I known there was a microwave, I would've brought my portable french press for good coffee and just boiled water in the room. One night we wanted to open a bottle of wine but didn't have a corkscrew, I just asked a staff member who was walking around the grounds if they might be able to lend us one, and not 5 mins later, they brought one right up to our room! That was great. The pool looked nice and hot tub was amazing, with two levels!! The inn seemed to be full of cars and might have been at maximum occupancy, but this was not at all reflected in noise level! Very peaceful & spacious feel. Not swanky, but nothing really is in Tahoe. Liked it a lot.

We stayed in a 2 queen-standard room in Dec. 2010. This place is a dump. The bathrooms are so old, you couldn't tell if they looked/seemed dirty based on age or simply because they were dirty.

This hotel needs some serious bathroom remodeling and overall updating.

Visited Tahoe in December 2010 and posted on September, 20, 2011. Not sure where you stayed but regret that you had a terrible Lake Tahoe lodging experience.

Disclaimer: Had a house in SLT for 9 years (sold in 2008) and haven't actually had to take a room there since (camped in 09). So I am no longer a SLT expert. That said, I was very happy with Inn by the Lake:
First, when we checked in, we were told were upgraded to a 1-br suite. I was a bit hesitant b/c I the suites were overlooking the pool but they shut the pool party down at 11:15 and I never heard a noise after that.
The 1 br was huge. Ridiculous- full kitchen, view of the lake, seating for fifteen.... There were some funky issues like the '80s era jacuzzi tub with mirror was not fully functional, but honestly, I can't really get behind huge bathtubs anyway any more and I think they should rip it out. There were some really random issues with level floors that made us laugh but were not worthy of a downgrade. Furniture was humorously outdated but still comfortable and quite functional.
It's a very nice location, They have bikes for guests for free, so we went down on the free bikes to visit our dogs (at the the Angora informal pet cemetary) and also hit the casinos - in a car. Lovely front desk staff, nice hot tub and pool. Freshies is right across the street ( best rest. in SLT)

Room Tip: Rooms facing pool will be noisier.

Inn by the Lake is a "botique" hotel in Sout Lake Tahoe. I was here for a business conference and the rate was a good price. The outside of the hotel is nice and the meeting center was well laid out for smaller conferences of no more that 150 attendees.

My room was very outdated. I can see why the management would not invest in new paint, carpets, etc because its more a ski hotel than a business hotel, but still there are issues that could be remedied for little investment.

1) TV's are at least 15 years old and 18 inch.
2) Furniture is low cost and remind me of the furbiture aI had while in college.
3) Bahroom I had in my room was ANCIENT - everythinig needs to be updated.

Room Tip: Do not book a lake view room in September 2011. Construction on South Lake Tahoe Blvd is ongoing and...

Thanks for your posting. The highway 50 project will be finished for the season on or about October 15. With the exception of new landscaping the portion in front of the Inn will have been completed. The portion from Freemont Ave to Ski Run Blvd. will be completed next year.

Our stay at Inn by the Lake was pretty much perfect. The lake is across the street and we had a great view from our room and especially from the balcony. The staff was friendly and the room and bed were comfortable. South Lake Tahoe is very busy and not all that visually appealing in spots, but the Inn is located in an area with less going on. There are dozens of restaurants within walking distance and it's only two miles to Nevada and the casinos.

Lake Tahoe itself is beautiful, with snow on the mountaintops during our mid-July visit. There are amazing views, parks, trails, drives, restaurants and other smaller lakes in the area.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms are wonderful.
