What a let down this was,we expected vibrant green colours, against a black volcanic background, the water colour looked simply dirty, maybe we visited at the wrong time of the year.

El Golfo itself has wonderful scenery and views well worth a visit.
The lagoon was an utter let down.

Nothing like I visited a few years ago. I wouldn’t suggest you make a special trip but we liked El Golfo.

I love a good hike and an impressive view or something different- this is neither. After a short walk from a very busy car park we got the the vantage point overlooking El Lago Verde and I have to say all 4 of us just though what!!! The 'lake' is not a lake but a small expanse of water which just looks dirty - it is not worth the trip out and certainly nothing special. If you want to see something more impressive drive further down the coast towards Playa Blanca where the coastline is really impressive and far more interesting to walk along and photograph. El Lago Verde - Don't wast your time.

We pulled into the El Golfo car park not sure what was there or how to find the green lagoon we'd heard of. However, it's just a short walk up a rocky path from the car park to see it. El Lago Verde is amazing to see but the sea is just as beautiful. The waves have a glacial quality to them with a stunning cool blue colour next to the white of crests.

There's three paths well worth exploring. The path that goes up to the left a bit takes you to see El Lago Verde. The path that goes down to the beach is worth a walk to feel the black sand and dig for little green gems called Olivine that can be found in the sand (they make a lot of jewellery from these locally). Then there's another path that goes up to the right (above the gift shop) and the view up there of El Golfo and the sea is truly beautiful.

If you've got some good shoes it helps but not essential as the walk isn't long at all, it's just rocky and a bit up hill.

Well worth a stop if you're heading to Timanfaya National Park like we were.

All of the coast around El golf is stunning with this volcano crater one of the stars. But there are several stop points along eth coast near here that you shoudl make sure to see all of the natural wave crashing points, sunsets, sea caves and beaches.
