Just the most amazing trip on this beautiful converted wooden minesweeper from WW2.
The scenery is dramatic and wonderful, the crew friendly and welcoming. Arriving at Friendly Cove we were treated to a historical First Nation perspective of the local area giving an insight to the colourful and turbulent past. Following in Cooks footsteps and being aware of the local archaeology is an experience not to be missed. Nootka Sound, Bligh Island and Resolution Cove are some of the landmarks passed and to watch kayakers winched aboard still in their kayak by a deck derrick is a sight to behold. We would love to go back tomorrow and it was certainly worth every penny. You should just do it!

We experienced the trip to Kuyuquot, overight in a cute cabin, then return via Friendly Cove as there weren't as many deliveries/pick ups as on the way up.Loved the sea otters floating on their backs; lots of them!

interesting working freighter with well organized and friendly crew. Punctual with drop off and pick-up for our kayak adventure. The kayaks were a little smaller for storage than we were used to, so had to store stuff on the deck. The kayaks they supplies were seaworthy and stable.

We have sailed on the Uchuck 3 times. Twice to Friendly Cove for hiking on Nootka Island and once to hike the Tatchu Trail on Vancouver Island then on to Kyuquot. The crew of the Uchuck are wonderful. They stop to let passengers enjoy whales, whether humpback, orcas or greys. The food in the on board cafe is excellent. How many boats let you enjoy the ride in the wheelhouse with the skipper? The scenery is amazing and the experience is unforgettable. It is so much fun to watch a working freighter dropping goods off in remote camps along the coast. It is an incredible advenure that we have recommended to many friends and neighbours. Can't wait to go out with them again next summer.

The MV Uchuck provided two friends and myself with a spectacular cruise down a long inlet of water for a 'wet launch' drop-off at Friendly Cove that allowed us to reach the western side of Nootka and Vancouver Island and experience the majesty and power of the Pacific ocean. From the professional, courteous service of the crew who load your kayaks, to the ride on the well-maintained, historic vessel, to the great home-cooked food served with a smile, the experience is first-class and genuine. Can't say enough good things about it!
