“Don't stay here if you plan to get any sleep”
Reviewed August 21, 2019 for a stay in August 2019

This is the worst night we have ever spent away from home. The mattresses are paper thin, making the beds brutally uncomfortable. The shades don't block the light, so it's bright inside the RV at all times. An outside light on the shed is left on permanently. Skylights over the sleeping areas make it impossible to block the early morning sun. The RV is located next to the highway, so it's also noisy. Truck and motorcycle traffic is going by at all hours. Every time the wind blows off the Gulf of the St Lawrence, the trailer rattles and shakes. There is very little hot water in the small tank: we drained it in one 7-minute shower. Buyer beware: this would be very tight and uncomfortable quarters for 8 guests.

Management Response

Let me begin by saying I am sympathetic with your severe insomnia refraining you from a good nights sleep anywhere your rest your head, however, to blame our accommodations and say untruthful things about our RV's is quite disappointing. Nothing in our ad on any booking site or any other site that we advertise on is misleading in any way. It says two bedroom RV Cottage and that is exactly what they are. There is 45 pictures of the property, outside of the RV Cottages and inside showing very clearly that they are RVs and it also shows where the proximity of the road to the RVs. There is even a picture of the layout of the inside of the RV showing exactly what it is. Upon your arrival at check in, you stated how beautiful the property was and how nice the RV was. The following morning you called me expressing that you had not been able to sleep the night before. I asked you why? You said because you have SEVERE INSOMNIA and the RV was not dark enough inside, there was too much traffic noise, the bed was uncomfortable (you said to me that obviously I had never slept in it which at that point I stated to you that we had slept in every bed in the RV to make sure they were comfortable, which they are) and that it had been too windy. You then said that you could not stay because of your insomnia and pleaded with me to have pity on you and let you out of your 3 days left on your reservation. I told you at that time that there is absolutely no issues with our accommodations to stop you from sleeping, it is your severe insomnia. Throughout the conversation you repeated again and again that you have severe insomnia and to have pity on you. I explained to you again that there was absolutely no issues with our accommodations to stop you from sleeping. So let me state the facts about our property ( and please check our reviews on travel sites including CANADA SELECT to see for yourself how satisfied our guests are):

" 1. There is 45 pictures of the surrounding property, outside of the RV Cottages and inside showing very clearly that it is an RV and it also shows where the road is. There is even a picture of the layout of the inside of the RV showing exactly what it is. You would have clearly seen that our RV Cottages are RV's from the pictures.

2. You stated that we are on a bluff right on the Gulf of St. Laurence with the winds from the Gulf rattling the RV all night(FYI, Gulf winds are north and northeast winter winds. The night you stayed, the winds were southwest 30 kms which is a summer breeze and come from the back of the property from the mountains. We are nowhere near a bluff of any kind as you can see in our pictures of the surrounding area. We are about 1 kms from the Gulf, plus we have a small hill on the back of the property which actually shelters from the wind(please see attached photos) The pictures also shows that there are no trees surrounding the property so you would have see that when you booked. That is actually the biggest attraction to our property because it gives 360 degree views of mountains in the background and sunsets over the ocean.(check our reviews on the travel sites). The RV's are situated in a rural setting so traffic after 7 pm until 8 am is almost non existing with a vehicle going by maybe every couple of hours at the most. Plus, 95% of tourist accommodations in the Cheticamp area are close to the road, so wherever you went after you left our accommodations, you would have had more traffic noise as we are located outside the village.

3. the blinds in the RV are called light and dark blinds. As you can see in the attached pictures in all our ads, they are perfect for filtering out the sun in the day and complete privacy at night. The small window in the bunkhouse in the back of the RV which you called a skylight and in the main queen bedroom are on the side of the RV and have black out curtains on each one of them. The 40 watt light on the outside of the small building on the property is on for security which is regulation with CANADA SELECT which we are registered as 4 star after a thorough inspection to make sure we were in compliant with their quality control program for accommodations. If that dim light really bothered you that bad, you had been told that if you had any issue at all to call the number which is on the front cover of the binder that is on the dining table and we would be there in 5 minutes to fix any problem. But you did not call. Besides that dim light, it is absolutely pitch dark, there is not even a street light. All the light is from the moon and stars on a clear night.

4. The hot water tank is the standard size for an RV and we tell all our clients to take showers of 15 minutes or less and wait about 20 minutes in between to allow the water to get hot again. We've had 6 to 8 guests in our RV's which have taken showers for 15 minutes and still had hot water. We know this because we always asks to make sure. We have also stayed in the RV before opening our season for several days to test everything out and took several showers lasting at least 15 minutes and never ran out of hot water. Your reservation was for only two people so there should not have been a problem to wait 20 minutes for the water to become hot again.

5. The beds in the RV Cottage are as follows:
1 bedroom with one three year old sealy queen size pillow top mattress(bedroom has two doors that close off the bedroom to the rest of the living area. Living area has a pull out sofa bed with a brand new self inflating/deflating double high, double size mattress. The bunk room in the back( which has a full door that closes so it is a separate sleeping room) has two bunks with 4 inch memory foam mattress and a brand new sofa bed with self inflating/deflating double high, double size mattress. All these are required by CANADA SELECT which we were thoroughly inspected and rated as a four star RV Cottages, highest rated for our type of accommodations in NOVA SCOTIA.
So with all this being said, There is absolutely nothing misleading. Nothing that you complained about is true. And the only reason you could not sleep was because of your severe insomnia which I am understanding of, but not understanding why you would blame our accommodations for your sleepless night. I would suggest to you for future travel, since you have severe insomnia, to travel with a mask for your eyes. You state that you even offered to pay for an extra night, which you did not. You did however expect me to not charge you for your booking although I told you that I was unable to rebook it at last minute but you did not care about that. You just kept pleading with me to have pity on you. If there would have been a viable issue with my accommodations, then I would not have hesitated to release you from your reservation. However, there was not.

I would suggest in the future to not blame where you lay your head for your lack of sleep. We take great pride in our small accommodations business and we go above and beyond to make sure everyone is comfortable but when someone has a condition like yours, that is beyond our control..Please read our other reviews and you will see how pleased our guests are.

with kindest regards,

Lucille and Roger

“Unique experience ”
Reviewed July 8, 2019 for a stay in July 2019

Beautiful location overlooking the water! First time staying in an RV and it was much more spacious than expected (easily accommodated our group of 4 adults and 3 kids!). Close to the entrance to the park and restaurants in Cheticamp. Lucille is very hospitable and made sure we had a great stay. Would definitely recommend!
