It is 65 kms from nearest Mangalore international airport and 15 kms from Kasargod town.
Unlike most other Indian forts, Bekal Fort was not a center of administration, for no remains of any palace, mansion or such buildings are found within the fort. Arguably the fort was built especially for fulfilling defence requirements. The holes on the outer walls of the fort are specially designed to defend the fort effectively. The holes at top were meant for aiming at the farthest points; the holes below for striking when the enemy was nearer and the holes underneath facilitated attacking when the enemy was very near to the fort. This is remarkable evidence of technology in defense strategy.

The place is very good and worth the visit. Kinda hidden gem as not many ppl visit. It has breathtaking views from the highest fort. and the place is literally so huge.
Note the timing before going and avoid afternoon as it gets very dry and terribly hot.

The stunning location makes all the difference. The panoramic view of the sea and the foliage of the coconut trees from the top observation deck was outstandanding. It's well maintained and clean. There is an entry fees.
Apparently a song from the movie Bombay was shot here during rainy season where everything was looking so green. In winter it was more brown and the sun was strong. The view of the Arabian sea was a delight. Don't think anybody could go near the sea from here.
Parking place is outside the fort and it's quite big, I assume it gets full quickly. There are parking charges. Overall it's massive and beautiful.
