Abercorn Inn Vancouver Airport
Ranked #18 of 23 Hotels in Richmond
Reviewed 24 July 2017

First note, this is not a Best Western as of June this year. No doubt they found it difficult to meet BW standards. Secondly, there is no hotel restaurant, it closed three years ago and is now a breakfast room. Numerous dining establishments are within a 10 minute walk. The Skytrain is also close by.
Breakfast was typical dried eggs from a bag and non-palatable sausage. It never changed in the time we stayed. At least at Holiday Inn there is a variety.
A 1970s décor with a Scottish theme, the place is in need of a deep clean to rid it of that funky old hotel smell. (1970 may have been the last time the windows were cleaned). While the rooms and bath where spacious, the amenities were dated. No hi def.TV. No wireless phone. Dangerously, the shower had no heat balancer in it – switching to scalding hot without notice!
Staff was helpful and friendly. However, this is a cash cow for the owner who’s spent minimally in return.
Move on!!

Room Tip: There is no in hotel restaurant

Okay, so maybe the 1970's Scottish look is over. And its a strange combo. Chinese owned, Scottish themed hotel near Vancouver Canada. We couldn't afford to stay downtown, so we found the best buy on a place close to the airport. Since we wouldn't get in until 10:00 pm that seemed to be the best bet. After landing they quickly got us into our room and it was large enough and modern enough for us. We were operating without a car, so it was a short 10 minute walk to the Skytrain which whisked downtown. From there with our one day Compass card we could ride the Skytrain,(partial subway) the bus lines or the ferries. After eating at Oceans 999 we strolled a few blocks and took the subway back home. Great breakfast and service, good room, not terribly bad location. Wouldn't change a thing.

The external (Tudor-style) of this hotel is unique amongst airport hotels. Our rating would have been higher if not for a musty smell on the 2nd level where our room was. Otherwise, good value, cheerful service and convenient location for the airport.

Hotel is well located relative to the Vancouver Airport but needs a makeover. Outside appearance lots promising but interior is very dated and needs refreshing. Ok for an overnight stop before a flight.
