We went to Shang's once again using a Groupon which was a very good deal. As usual, their noodles were very tasty--the Laksa Malaysian Noodles came with a lot of mushrooms, beansprouts, and squid with some chicken pieces and half a soft boiled egg. I always enjoy the broth.
With the Groupon, 2 bowls of noodles, a small bowl of 6 wontons with sweet soya sauce were tasty but one of the wonton filling (pork) was raw and undercooked so I had to send it back. They did bring us another order where the filling was now cooked. Bad to eat undercooked pork! The Groupon also included 2 cans of soft drinks and 2 little mango desserts. We also ordered the Miso bbq pork noodles and again, the broth was very tasty.
The food at Shang's is very good and reasonably priced but it's the waitresses that are the weak point. A few of them are unfriendly and when Groupon is used, they treated us like 2nd class citizen. In addition, they expected a huge tip when the service was terrible. I don't believe we should tip 20% when the service is undeserving!
Replace the wait staff with attentive servers and ones that don't sneer at Groupon users and with the existing tasty noodles, Shang's has potential in this very competitive market in Richmond BC.
