It was our first time to go back after new management. Food was still delicious. Good portion size. Service was as expected from a Chinese restaurant.

Ding Tai Fung is very consistent with their specialty which is soup dumplings. Definitely worth a visit. Their other offerings in stir fried noodles and soup noodles were also good.

If you are into dim sum, this is your place in the GTA. Above all, make sure you do not miss the soup dumplings which are probably the main reason to visit this restaurant. Other great dishes on the menu are the beef noodles (which sometimes can be spicy), the spring onion omelets and the fried rice with seafood/ham/beef. I visited the place several times and it is always busy (mainly families), so expect to wait for about 20 minutes. All in all, great food and good value for money.

We had several dishes here and all but one were very good.
1. Xiao loong bao - could definitely use more broth, but very good. Especially with a little black vinegar.
2. Spicy Shanghai Wontons - absolutely delicious! Cannot go wrong.
3. Pan fried chives and minced pork - not bad. We have had better, but still yummy
4. Soy sauce stewed pork and egg over rice - comes with egg drop soup (yuck!) and spicy beansprouts. It was ok. Nothing spectacular.
5. Red bean pan fried cake - this was ok. A bit oily IMO.
6. Siew mai glutinous rice - nope; will not order this again.

We would be back for #1 and #2 for sure and maybe try something else too.

We have been to Din Tai Feng in China and in Taiwan where it originated. This restaurant in Markham has nothing to do with the real Din Tai Feng and is not approved by the real Din Tai Feng. I am not sure how the restaurant in Markham gets away with using the same name as the authentic restaurant. It uses the same Chinese characters. However, you might notice the pinyin is different. The Markham restaurant is Ding Tai Feng, whereas the authentic restaurants in Taiwan, China and Hong Kong are Din Tai Feng. Ding vs. Din.

In any event, while the food in the Markham restaurant is good, it is not excellent and it is certainly overpriced. I encourage anyone to visit Din Tai Feng in Taibei and compare. I am a white English Canadian and can recognize the difference right away. This restaurant should not try to benefit from the reputation of the real Din Tai Feng.
