Pet friendly doesn’t mean friendly pets…

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 24, 2024via mobile
So we typically in the industry want people to leave our establishments happy, one way or another. So I politely voiced my dissatisfaction to the front desk, (by no means looking for “comps” but maybe acknowledgment and potentially a gesture) but unfortunately I still left unhappy.

So here is my unbiassed review. .

first I will say to those who are looking…this is a PET FRIENDLY hotel. I missed this somehow….So just understand, that being woken up by a barking dog in your hallway on your vacation is something that COULD happen…And DID happen to us. …But I was told by the front desk that it’s a “pet friendly hotel”….and when a dog on a leash lunged and barked at our family as we came out of the elevator to our room … I was told it’s a “pet friendly hotel”. Maybe “pet friendly” doesn’t mean “friendly pets”. The pool and hot tub were very “strong” , we all felt it on our skin immediately after and for a couple of days.…pool was also very busy in the evening time .

And the elevator… wow….a mind of its own it seemed. You would think it’s coming from 30
Stories up. That’s the bad…

The room was comfortable tho. Clean and There was a little fireplace and a decent bathroom. There seemed to be plenty of parking, it’s walking distance on a nice day to the town and it’s cheaper than most competitors. The breakfast buffet was decent content wise, had a good variety, but struggled to keep up with the people.

I’m sure if you want to bring your dog with you this would be a great place to stay. BUT if you want 100% chance of not being woken up or having your children barked at by a dog in the hallways on your vacation then maybe it’s not for you?

4/5 for room condition/food/general areas
2/5 for my experience and the policy and how it was handled

3/5 overall to be fair

Room Tip: “Pet friendly” more budget with breakfast makes it busier

Room:
Got to our room and noticed the pillows on the one bed were covered in dirt looked like they were dropped in dirt and picked up again, also noticed that the bottom sheet wasn’t clean (had marker on it) and noticed nacho chips on the floor (indication room was not cleaned well) not a great first impression. Went to front desk to have our room looked at, the housekeeper changed the pillow cases but did not want to change the bedding as he said it’s clean just won’t come out. Too tired from travelling to argue.
Next morning went to shower no conditioner was refilled and no lotion was in our room. Went to the front desk to ask for our beds to be stripped (didn’t feel very comfortable) conditioner to be topped up and lotion if they have it (so dry this time of year). Came home from a long but fun activity day, showered and went to bed. Conditioner was refilled but no lotion. Hopped into bed, and immediately could tell that this wasn’t clean crisp bedding. Pulled over the sheets noticed there was hair (assuming dog hair) as they are pet friendly. Daughter and I slept on top of the top sheet for the night. I would say they definitely need to improve and pay more attention to cleanliness of the rooms.

Pool: The pool was very gross and dirty. Went into the hot tub and tiny grits of sand in the bottom and was super cloudy water, didn’t stay long that’s for sure. Also had a very high chlorine smell which usually indicates there’s too much bacteria for the chemicals to get rid of. Also there was never any pool towels to use.

Breakfast: impressed that it was a hot breakfast, but staff had a very hard time keeping it maintained and clean.

Staff: very friendly staff but seemed very lazy at just wanting to do the bare minimum.

Overall if cleanliness is your top priority this isn’t the place for you.

Extremely noisy hotel. There were dozens of kids running around screaming at the top of their lungs by 7:00am. There were A LOT of hockey teams here. It’s not a great place to stay if you want rest.

The food was disgusting. Had to throw out the sausages and eggs after one bite and went over to Craig’s restaurant next door for a decent meal.

The sink was missed in the cleaning and was dirty when we checked in.

Front desk staff was nice.

Room is a standard room with all amenities.

We are a family friendly hotel who welcomes travelers with and without children. We are also pet friendly and sports teams do visit during most months of the year. I am sorry if you were inconvenienced.

Stayed at the Pocaterra for 2 nights and had a great time! The hotel accommodated our request to have a room near our friends. The waterslide and pool were so much fun although the chlorine seemed really high the second day.
The continental breakfast was excellent and always fully stocked. Rooms have been renovated and were great for our family!

We were visiting Banff National Park and were looking for hotels in Banff and Canmore. Being only a short drive away from Banff NP and with cheaper hotel prices, we decided to stay in Canmore. Banff seemed a lot more crowded and a little more expensive. After doing a little research on the local hotels, we decided on the Pocaterra Inn and Waterslide. It was a great decision. We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here in September 2023. It is a very nice property but the rooms were the biggest takeaway. We reserved the Superior King Suite and thought it was a great value for the price. The room was very spacious and very nice; and when you are going to spend 3 nights in a hotel, you do not want it to be small and cramped. Our room had a fireplace and plenty of room to have some space. The front desk was very helpful with dinner recommendations and answering questions. The chocolate chip cookies in the evening were a nice touch. The morning breakfast was included and it was average but with everything else being so nice, that was ok. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay in the Banff area.

An OK hotel, that cost far too much. But, you're paying for the location.

Clean and tidy and with helpful staff. Breakfast wasnt anything to get excited about.

If you need somewhere to stay then I dont have any complaints about this place.

Thanks for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. I would agree hotel rates throughout beautiful Canmore are high during our busy summer season. Lower rates for the more budget minded traveler can be found at other times.
