Relaxing Weekend Turned Bad

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 24, 2019via mobile
We stayed at the Clarion for a bit of a get away. When checking in our front desk person was uninterested that we were there and barely spoke to us. Upon getting to the room and for the few hours before dinner, all we could hear were children yelling and running through the halls and construction taking place. We thought things would quiet down when we returned after dinner but no such luck. Front desk informed us that they had spoken to some of the children, but have they spoken to the parents?

We had planned to be lazy the next day and take it slow, however we were woken up at 8 am by a knock on the door followed by a phone call to let us know our toothpaste had arrived though we had not ordered any. We attempted to fall back asleep and were once again woken at 9 am by the sound of construction as if someone were removing tiles on the other side of our wall.

We called down and the front desk could actually hear this through the phone. Unfortunately it continued until our check out (for another two hours).

We will not be returning to this hotel. Though the beds were comfortable, nothing else was. In addition there was no indication that construction would be taking place when booking. If we had been aware, we would have had different expectations or planned to stay elsewhere. A poster in the elevator is hardly providing guests with notice. I'd recommend booking elsewhere until construction has ended though I can't say our service was great either.

The view and the lake was beautiful. Restaurant on the top floor was very nice. Hotel rooms was clean and quite. But if the hotel has an automatic sliding door would have been better. Differently the nicest hotel in Norther Ontario.

Room tip: Pick the Lakeside and go down to the Docks.

Comfortable beds like sleeping on a cloud.
Wonderfully light, warm duvets.
Four fluffy pillows for each bed.
Extra blankets in room.
Wonderful view of the lake- pretty even in winter. Full wall window really accentuated the view.
Small bathroom but beautifully appointed with wonderful shower fixture with lots of spray options.
Quiet room - no noise from hall or other rooms, even though we knew there was a hockey tournament going on and many families were staying there.
Parking - free and with plug-ins for your vehicle.
Complimentary coffee in lobby.
Only downside to the room was the lack of plug-ins. We travel with 2 phones, 2 tablets, 2 CPAP machines and a heating pad, and we struggled to find a place to plug everything in. Had to unplug some lamps to make it work, and luckily I travel with my own extension cord just in case.
Room was clean and staff were friendly.
Kenora Recreation Center was just a quick walk across the street which was perfect because we were there to see our Grandson play hockey.
Safeway VERY close for picking up snacks etc. Could walk in warm weather - not in -25 like it was when we were there.
Elevators were an average size but worked quickly so no long waits that we experienced.

Room tip: Every room has a view - but the higher up you go the better the view. You have your choice of a view of the lake or of the town.

We had previously checked in to a hotel that was far from clean and updated, thank goodness this hotel could squeeze us in being that it was practically full due to hockey tournament. Lynn at the front desk was amazingly friendly and helpful welcoming us and our fur baby. The room was very clean and beds soft and comfy. The food and service in the lounge was great! Location is perfect, on the lake, next to areana and grocery store. I would have rated it a 5 but housekeeping forgot to replenish coffee, cups and condiments. Not a big deal tho. Again thank you to Lynn at the front desk, you are definitely an asset to this hotel.😀

Sat by the window and had a wonderful view of the water and boats moored at the dock. The food was very good as well. Met some friends for breakfast and found it be quite reasonable and tasty. Would definitely stay there and eat at this restaurant
