Great Cabin

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 17, 2017via mobile
This os a little piece of heaven. Great, quiet and relaxing chalet. My husband, myself and 18 yr old son stayed comfortably. Has everything you need.

A few of the downsides about the chalet was no cable or dvd player (and advertised is a flatscreen), wifi was very patchy (could barely keep a connection). The cleaning staff, although veey friendly walked in on us in our pjs? we mentioned we didnt need the daily service as we would requeat as needed, they came constantly anyway.

All in all a great stay and will be back

My husband and I and his parents stayed over in one of the cabins here for one night on our way upto Jasper.

We recieved a warm welcome and could not belive how nice the cabin was. The beds were comfortable and we all slept really well.

I would definatly recommend staying here and would love to go back and stay for longer.

We stayed last night at the Dream Catcher Inn on our way to Jasper. It's a lovely place that unfortunately we won't return to again.

Upon arrival I mentioned that there were five members in our family (two adults, three children). The third party website we booked through only gave the option of 4 people, which I have found is often the case with many hotels. Our youngest is five and prefers to sleep on the floor or a sofa anyway so we generally book one hotel room for 4 people, knowing he'll snuggle in happily anywhere. We have stayed in dozens of hotels, motels, inns and air bnbs with this type of arrangement. However Doreen seemed unhappy when I mentioned there were five of us, referring to a strict policy of only 4 people. She agreed to make an exception but she also offered multiple times to call around and try to find us other accommodation. It was late and we were tired, we just wanted to eat and go to bed so she let us stay. It's not a very nice feeling though to feel like an "exception."

The whole arrival and check-in felt unwelcoming and reprimanding. She mentioned more than once that "they don't often have children stay." I felt right away that our children were unwelcome, especially because there were three of them. Even more surprising was when we arrived at our lovely little cabin we found beds for six people - two bunk beds and a queen in one room, and a pull down double murphy bed in the living area. I found it confusing that there were beds for six if only four people are allowed.

There was another strange thing, which may or may not be related to us having children in our party. I read in some reviews and in the guest book in our cabin that the Inn offers breakfast for an additional fee. When our power went out early this morning I wandered down to the main lodge to see if they had power and stumbled in a cute little breakfast room set for morning breakfast. The odd thing is we were never offered breakfast as an add-on option, neither through the third-party website we booked through nor at arrival and check-in. Perhaps it was simply an oversight but it felt odd and I couldn't help wondering if children were not welcome at breakfast either.

For anyone traveling with only two children or without children at all, I would highly recommend the Dream Catcher. The cabins are homey and lovely with plenty of space for two (or five) people. There isn't really a kitchen but there is a small fridge, microwave, coffee maker and an outside grill so you could do simple meals if needed. Our kids loved the hanging loft bed. The queen bed was firm and comfortable. The living area has a comfy sofa and a large table and chairs plus a deck out back (but swarms of mozzies).

The whole area lost power early this morning and we discovered that means no water in the cabins either. That made getting ready difficult but we used the bottled water in the fridge until the power finally came back on, allowing us to quickly shower before leaving.

Overall this is a really pretty property and a great place to stop if you fit the demographic they are seeking to serve. Sadly we didn't and so we felt like we shouldn't be there. I regret not checking with Doreen about the max number of people allowed, although I have not previously encountered such a strict policy in our family's travels around the world. After the initial confusion she was gracious, introducing herself to the kids and bringing us extra towels. Don't let my review turn you away, unless you have more than two children. Then you need to keep on driving.

Thank you for your comments. We do have our policies in place for a reason and if our guests expect to be the exception I believe as property owners we have a right to object somewhat although we try our best to make you feel welcome. Breakfast is not included with our chalet rate and it states that on your reservation information. Some guests are part of a group package . Perhaps staying at larger hotels will give you more flexibility- we are a small facility and cannot cater to everyone's needs. You have a lovely family and I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

This was a great find for our trip to Mt. Robson (only 15 minutes by car). In addition to the main house there are a few cabins available, which are very spacious and have a living/kitchen area, bathroom and patio with BBQ. Everything we could have asked for was there. The absence of a kitchen sink made some things a bit trickier, but didn't create a problem. The bedroom of our cabin (Nr. 1) was away from the Highway, so it made for a very quiet good night sleep.

We decided to spend one night in Dream Catcher Inn, on our journey from Edmonton to Vancouver. The host was warm, friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was nice and was served in a beautifully decorated room with nice views. It was a relaxing stay - exactly what we needed.

I stayed a few days in the Cedar cabin, December 16,17, 2016. Its as rustic log cabin with all the amenities. Fireplace, separate bedroom. A very comfortable living area with a deck facing west towards the mountains. The owner/operator Doreen Vanasten is a very hospitable person with much knowledge of the area and Jasper. The Dreamcatcher has three separate guest log cabins and a main lodge for larger groups. So if you are looking to relax, unwind in front of the fireplace and read a book or watch a movie this is an excellent venue.

Although there is no restaurant there a number in the village and one very nice one called the Cariboo. Grill.
