We stayed one night over the thanksgiving long weekend. I had tried other motels but was told all rooms were full so in desperation I called the travellers rest. I say that because I know how old this motel is I used to rent a room from them over 30 years ago and driving past it over the years I noticed the curtains always looked the same.
Upon arrival I checked in, the manager seemed nice so I paid and he gave me the key and instructions where we could park. We were running tight for time as we had a wedding to attend so quickly we opened the door, my husband and I were aghast the room tweaked of mildew, we heard a loud stereo playing and suddenly there was a strange man at our door. He seemed intoxicated, said he hoped he was going to be alone and he wanted to know if his music was too loud. My husband told him it was like he was partying in our room so after a short discussion he left telling my husband that there would be a cold one in his fridge when we got back. We quickly got dressed for wedding and put most of our belongings back into our vehicle. We did not shower because there was mould in the bathtub under the plastic mat that you could see through. The corners around tub were either extremely dirty or mouldy as well but we did not investigate further. We went in Salmon Arm and bought a can of febreeze to spray the room because of the stank. When we returned to room we immediately sprayed the room to make the room tolerable. We could hear the neighbours tv so instead of knocking on his door we turned on the tv in out room. It was an old tv but it worked. The chair in the room was the same fabric from when I lived there over 30 years ago, as was the curtains, the bedspread. The table beside the bed had so many cigarette burns on it the entire front edge was one burn beside another all along it. The carpet had marks on it like pee stains from maybe a pet? The bathroom light that was on the outside wall by the closet rod did not work at all, someone had installed a light right above the door which would not have been bad but the door had a window so the light stayed on all night. Because the room stunk so badly we were hesitant to use the bed but we knew we needed rest before our long drive home the following day, so we sprayed more febreeze hoping if it smelt better we might rest. The chain lock on the door was broken so we did not feel secure. I tried to use wifi but no network was detected on my mini ipad. The final straw was when I tried to take my nightly medications there was not a cup or glass in the room. Since it was late there was no light on in the office so I had to improvise a container to get a drink of water. There was a coffee pot, coffee, and fixings for morning but nothing to drink out of. I tried to bring my concerns to the manager when I returned my key in the morning but the sign on door said open but door was locked! This motel needs to have major work done , the windows and walls were wet in the morning from condensation. I agree with others this motel needs to be inspected and improved or condemned.
