River Heights Motel
Ranked #12 of 15 Courtenay B&B and Inns
Reviewed 28 August 2013

From the outisde the River Heights Motel looks like a place you wouldn't want to stay at. The buildings look old and slightly run down. The rooms surprise though. Clean and reasonably well appointed for a motel in this price range. Beds are comfortable - always a big plus and fairly close to amenities like restaurants and groceries.
The price is very competitive so if you are on a budget traveling through Courtney this place will suit your needs quite well.

Room Tip: They have a couple of suites with a separate bedroom. Not much more money for more room.

Chose this hotel due to it's fairly inexpensive rate. When we first arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to find the room was quite nice. The bathroom was a mix of old and new with a fairly new sink and toilet and tile, but an old green tub. Things seemed good. One of us proceeded to take a shower and we noticed there was no fan in the bathroom. The shower made the whole room extremely humid, so we opened the windows. Due to the motel's location, the traffic is quite noisy with the windows open (even a bit so when they are closed). Air conditioning/humidity fan would have been useful, but what can you really expect with the rates so low. Our dog seemed welcomed and the room was good for our purposes. Good value for sure.

For the price- $60 for senior couple, can't be beat for what you get. Yes, style is older but with attempts to update. Older TV, but good cable. VERY FRIENDLY ACCOMMODATING FAMILY RUN. Clean, good fluffy towels. We were comfortable, slept well. Location is excellent. Will go back.

We were looking for something cheap and affordable while on a business trip into town, and were lured into this place by it's amazingly low rates. To be frank I was a little hesitant bfore actually looking into the rooms, but we were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness, comfort, and spaciousness of these well-lit, well-ventilated rooms. Great value for great rates. The rooms have obviously been recently renovated, pretty much everything felt brand new - very contrary to the exterior appearance of this joint... Do not be phased by the old building and faded parking lot. The faux-hardwood floors, all cotton bedding, and wide-opening windows are much more tasteful than what you would find at a much more expensive hotel with carpeted floors, synthetic 'comforters' and tiny windows. Nice people running the place, too.

one of the cheaper motels in town and very very clean and well maintained. Good location, near comox, mount washington and other central vancouver island locations. Great start to go further north. We would come here again.

In the US, a room like this on the outskirts of a small city (24,000) would be about $45. This was $60, very cheap for this area. The motel dates to the 1970's or 80's, but has been refurbished recently. Frame construction: if it were busy there would be room noise, but we had no immediate neighbours, Good-sized room, very clean, no odour at all. New towels and clean bedding. Good mattress. Lots of HOT water. Space heater warmed the room quickly. Summer might be a problem - no aircon that I could see, although there was a duct in the floor. WiFi worked. Very friendly clerk: we had no coffee for the machine and he RAN to the supply room and brought us a bag. No fan in bathroom: take a long shower and it would get pretty steamy. The tub had an odd feature: the drain is at the opposite end from the faucet, so lying with your back against the end would be very uncomfortable. They have suites with kitchens for $75: had we been staying for a few days we would have taken one.

Room Tip: The rooms right on the street would be very noisy. An upper end room would have less neighbour noise...
