Owner description: With a view over Provence to the Mediterranean, the Château des Baux is one of the most beautiful sites in France. It is also a unique place marked by a turbulent past of more than ten centuries: from the Counts of Les Baux (who claimed to be descended from King Balthazar) to the Château’s destruction in 1483 by Richelieu after the wars of religion. This medieval stronghold contains both a castle and a village.

that this is a charming little village with lovely views, think again! It is now entirely given over to tourist shops. The best views are fenced off and you are charged about 5 euros to look at them or do anything at all. (There may be a ticket that covers everything, I don't know). Virtually everything closes down by 6 pm, there is no life here at all. Parking is difficult, and probably impossible in season - but I wouldn't want to come here in season anyway because it would be so crowded, which spoils the whole concept.
The best thing we saw was the modern stained glass in the church, which was stunning.

Once at the top you will have beautiful commanding views of the surrounding valley and hills. It is very nice but not sure that the admission price is really worth it.

Our ticket for the light show included the Chateau which is a ruined castle at the top of Les Baux village. No extra charge for the audio guides. Wished our grandkids could’ve seen and climbed the remnants and ramparts.
