Dined last night with friends who had not experienced the excellent cuisine of Pinocchio. The service was very good, but the food was more than delicious and well prepared. The halibut and couscous was perfectly prepared. Tomato soup was very tasty. In was another grand experience at a fine restaurant in Magog.

Magog, QC is basically a summer time lake front resort community with an abundance of shops and restaurants of all types along Rue Principal/Main Street. The ski business in the winter is a good deal smaller. We have a cottage in a town not far away and were looking for a place for dinner with a house guest after attending Vespers at the nearby Abbey of St. Benoit du Lac. We have dined at many restaurants in the area, but this was the first time to Pinocchio and it was a revelation. It could hold its own with almost any restaurant anywhere. The welcome at the door was cordial and warm. We had a reservation, but the place was nearly empty at 6:30 p.m. on a Wednesday evening (October 8th, 2014). The decor is in an attractively polished modern bistro style. The menu contains ample and tempting choices, both table d'hote and a la carte. I had the steak tartare as an appetizer and wish I had ordered it for the main course. It was one of the best I have ever had and I say this having sampled this favorite dish all over the world. Not to be missed. All three of us had the filet mignon for a main course and it was beautifully prepared - tender, moist, and very well flavored. No condiments needed. The wine list contained a fairly wide selection, heavy on France (this is Quebec after all), and is expensive. Wines by the glass were in the $10-$15 range. We had a bottle of Gigondas and at $52 it was mid-range for what they offered. Our house guest picked up the dinner check! This is a first class establishment and we will return. Do not leave your wallet at home (but worth it). Highly recommended.

Now this has got to be one of the best tables in the Eastern Townships.
We had supper there on Monday, October 13, 2014, around 7 PM. The restaurant was almost empty, we were just walking past it looking for a place to eat. Am I glad we ended up there!
The restaurant itself is very modern, with a touch of classic bistro design - the tiles, the bar. Staff was perfect, and the menu seemed very interesting. We had the table d'hôte. I chose the soup (pumpkin, DELICIOUS, one of the best I've ever had!), the foie gras (to die for) and the mussels. I was ecstatic. Definitely a meal to remember.
The boyfriend had the soup (which he also LOVED), the beef tartare (seemed excellent) and the choucroute (likewise). And of course we had good wine.
I must say : this place is a treasure. I would go back anytime. Absolutely worth the price.
