“Amazing rock view from cosy motel-style room”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2010

Although there is a lot of competition amongst hotels in Perce, I chose the Riotel because it was easy to book a room via Expedia or the hotel’s own website. I was pleased with my choice, mainly because of the spectacular view of Perce Rock from my ground floor log-cabin style room.

The hotel was easy to find on the main road through Perce village and is close to various restaurants and gift shops. It has a main building with restaurant and hotel-style rooms, plus the outbuilding with two floors of log-cabin style rooms with views over the rock. There was easy car parking.

The room was a fairly good size and had most amenities including iron, coffee maker, tissues, toiletries, etc – no in-room safe. The bathroom was small but adequate. The bed was comfortable. I didn’t have too much bother with noise, although the walls are quite thin and other guests walk past the front window on a wooden deck.

I skipped the pricey dinner option in favour of a local eatery, but breakfast was good – a typical C$10.95 option gave juice, coffee, eggs, sausage, fruit and toast, so very good value. The staff were friendly.

If you’re visiting Perce, it’s great to be able to view the rock from the hotel room and have a decent standard of accommodation too. In that respect, the Riotel performs very admirably.

On the positive note, the staff is very cordial and helpful. The log-cabin room I had was very rustic and the feather duvets were really comfortable. The room I had was spacious and typical of what one would expect in a tourist experience. The property has an outdoor whirlpool that faces the rock, which is extremely romantic. There is even an organized fireplace so you can sit outside at night and view the beauty.

It should be noted that the main building has no elevator, so you have to schlepp your luggage up and down the stairs. The bathroom is also extremely compact and you have to be careful not to bang yourself against the safety bar when you shower. The bathroom was just not made right.

Alos noteworthy is that the portable air conditioning in the room does not help at all, You end up opening the windows because the aircon is not sufficient.

Dear reviewer,
First of all, we would like to thank you for your review. We are glad to see that you have appreciated your tourist experience in our hotel of Percé. We just replace the duvet in all our rooms, so we are really happy that you enjoyed them. We appreciate that our service level was at your convenience and we will make sure to share your comments with all our staff. Regarding the outdoor whirlpool that faces the rock, this is one of the “must” of our hotel and we're glad you've enjoyed at fair value.
Otherwise, unfortunately given the structure of the hotel, we do not have the ability to install an elevator but it is always possible to arrange one aimed at the reception.
Now about the size of the bathroom, all the rooms are not configured the same way, I am sorry you just hit one of the rooms where the bathroom is relatively small. We usually try to satisfy our clients and relocate them in another room if the room does not suit the needs (when possible).
We thank you for choosing the Riôtel Hospitality Group. Your comments are essential for us to continue to improve our services. We look forward to welcoming you again!

The best part of this accommodation was having only the ocean as the view outside our motel window. The room was recently re-carpeted, but other than that, the room itself is a little dated. However, the view and the deck outside were worth it. The room layout and beds were comfortable and the shower was probably the strongest I've ever had. It was a very peaceful and relaxing room. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially with my 9-year old son. The hotel restaurant food was ok, but the view from our table was incredible. If you are looking to really connect with the ocean, this place will do it for you. Check the photos to see what I mean. Caution, not all rooms have the view and deck that we had. Our room was #162.

Our upstairs room was in the block separate from the main building, facing Perce rock. The staff were helpful, but the restaurant menu was Table de Hote only so early in the season. The room was large, clean, quiet, with a lovely view. The furnishings had been updated. A good basic room.

This hotel was a mixed bag for us -- and most of my comments will echo those of the previous reviewer.

On the positive side, we had a very big room. I was told we'd have three beds (we're a family of four, so that's a plus), but was pleasantly surprised to find we had a suite (room #118) with a separate bedroom, a small kitchenette and sitting area, and a front area with a murphy bed. It seemed to be clean.

However, the room was in desperate need of a face lift. The sink was chipped, furniture had peeling trim, etc. The room smelled very musty when we first arrived, and the ventilation was terrible -- no fans, and tiny openings in the windows. The bedroom in the back had only one small window. Fortunately, the weather was cool. After a day, the smell dissipated -- or maybe we just got used to it.

The kitchenette was miniscule, and useful pretty much only for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch -- actually cooking in it would be pretty difficult (well, maybe pasta and a salad).

Finally, this room is located on the end of one of the buildings, and everyone had to walk by it to get to their rooms. I felt like we were in a fishbowl, especially as we needed to keep the curtains open for ventilation.

The location was fine, but no better than the other hotels in Perce. I would definitely shop around.

  • Liked — Size of room.
  • Disliked — Lack of ventilation/musty odor.

We stayed here at the end of August. The hotel is in a good location for walking to the ferry and the rock when the tide is low (Perce is compact so it is okay to be anywere in the town.) The room was small and the decor was dated. But it was a clean room and we had a view of the ocean and the island. It was quiet too, we hardly heard any noise. (It would not be so quiet on the side of the hotel facing the road) The dinner was fine, it was the same quality to other restaurants in the town.

I stayed here in Sept. 02 and enjoyed my stay. The rooms vary greatly in size. Some of my friend's rooms were HUGE. My room was rather tiny...but it faced the water. You could see Bonaventure Island from our room but not Perce Rock. There was a beach right outside my window so I could hear the waves coming onto the shore quite loudly. Was really relaxing listening to that; especially at night. That alone made up for the size. All the rooms we had(we were around 40 fiddlers on a tour) were all very clean and well equipped. They're panelled in wood to give sort of a cabin feel to them. The restaurant on site is well known for their seafood and they have a great breakfast menu as well. You have to eat here at least once so you can sit in the glassed in dining area and enjoy a wonderful view of Perce Rock! My advice would be your evening meal so you can watch the rock change colours with the sunset. The staff were good to us. If you don't speak much French, most if not all of them speak English so you'll do fine. If you do know a little French, they always seem to appreciate it when you give it a try. There's a second building with rooms only and private entrances for each. These all look directly out onto the water. If you're in the main building, you might want to request a room facing the water. If not, then you face the highway.
