It was a lovely evening to sit outside and we appreciated the friendly service. The food is just OK.

“Ok but not what we'd hoped.”
Reviewed 20 August 2011

Went here because it was recommended by Lonely Planet but unusually it did not quite come up to expectations. Probably expecting too much but fish and chips is really just fish and chips!! I had salmon and it really isn't the best fish to coat in batter and deep fry.

“Disgusting and a Ripoff”
Reviewed 14 August 2011

Went there with my husband, had fish and chips. It should be called Chips and Chips.
The fish portions were tiny, the chips did not taste good and neither did the fish.
I would suggest you stay home and make your own, cos if you go there you will get a stomach ache from all the grease and the chips. Its not worth your money.
They should have an offer saying "eat twice here and get a free consulation with a heart specialist" cos you will definitely need one.

“Really unbelievable”
Reviewed 3 August 2011

This restaurant looks quaint and interesting until you get inside. The first thing you notice is a musty smell and dirty carpets. Then as we were greeted and seated in this empty restaurant in the late afternoon on a brilliant sunny day, we're told that the menu is shortened as it's the chefs day off and the husband is cooking. There's a confidence builder!! Can you believe it?? As we were in the mood for fish and chips, the next surprise was a price tag of $26 per person for halibut and chips. At this point, we'd had enough and left.
Truly, words cannot express this experience and it's a shame because this place has great potential.

“Three times and you're out”
Reviewed 28 July 2011

Over the last couple of years, we have visited the Fish Tales Cafe three times and I think that we've finally come to the conclusion that we'll move on and find somewhere else. The food is decent, but nothing outstanding and I sort of recall that there was more selection on the menu. Their sign out front indicates that there is more, but the menu is basically fish and chips. The service is very poor and doesn't seem to be well organized. When we arrived we stood at the front counter for several minutes before anyone even acknowledged we were there. A friendly "hello, someone will be with you shortly" would have been nice.
