“Very fair hotel”
Reviewed 28 May 2012

A fair hotel. Very nice, simple, comfy, in a quiet location. We booked for one night with the 'spontaenous package' which includes stay, dinner, breakfast, and access to the spa. The room (comfort plus) was clean, the mattress was comfortable. It got a little hot in the room during the night. We enjoyed the restaurant; average fine dining, good brunch. The The pool and spa are a great asset. Overall, very nice!

just returned from our annual trip to val david to enjoy long weekend with friends. the room was spacious, clean and quiet. upstairs rooms in adjacent building to main are very private, stayed in 222. bathroom was a little tight, and light is not so good in it, spa tub was lovely. beds are acceptable, but not that comfortable. free wifi was very fast. recent upgrades to plasma tv on wall near fireplace with great reception. gas fireplace was great for drying out wet boots, etc. small cold fridge in room for personal items. very large hot tub outside, lots of fun to run to in the cold , but leave slowly if icy. breakfast and dinner were very good, great caesar salad. tomas in the dining room was really nice and very accommodating. front desk professional and friendly. housekeeping great. already made reservations for next year.

Promotional map on website gives the very misleading impression that this hotel is in the centre of Val-David village - it's actually 3 km out, on a fairly busy and mostly unwalkable road, in a ticky-tacky neighborhood beyond the long-closed Mont Plante ski area. You have to ski or walk through that neighborhood and along a bit of the road to get to the very nice Parc Dufresne trails. The hotel has a spa, massage services, fancy wine cellar etc. etc, but no fitness room. Stayed several days before and over Xmas - breakfast was always good - at dinner, food quality and service were weak on the quieter days, to the point where we almost left, but they surprisingly became much better when the place got busy. Very large dining rooms well-suited to company retreats and big family gatherings. Not so great as a ski lodge - there only seemed to be about half a dozen skiers (including us) among the hundreds who came through while we were there - but there might be more in better conditions. Staff were well-meaning and generally helpful, except for one waiter's take-it-or-leave it attitude to serving red wine far too cold. Particularly appreciated the cheerful and competent part-timers who served on the busy days. Prices quite reasonable, rooms comfortable if somewhat generic. Quite a good hotel in several ways - but check out the location on a real map to see if it's a problem for you.

Nestled in the heart of the Laurention Mountains in Val David Quebec, The Auberge du Vieux Foyer Hotel offers a CLEAN comfortable place at a reasonable price. I stayed for the last 2 nights for a work retreat and the stay was great. They have nice facilities with a mixture of the central hotel and various "houses" for accommodations.

The restaurant serves a nice Quebecois style menu with a nice flair. The always had a lot of nice fresh home made bread for each meal and the highlight for me was a steak on one evening and scallops at another sitting.

They offer an outdoor hot tub, an exercise room, and a games room.

Although I didn't try their Spa I was told it was great.

All in all a nice experience at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 132 which is a modern king sized room with a whirlpool bath. No view but It was qu...

We snuck away for a long weekend at Auberge du Vieux Foyer. We are not skiers, but went for rest & relaxation. The surrounding grounds are quaint and Swiss-like and there is a fireplace with comfy furniture, a piano and games outside the lobby area, nice to sit and read or socialize. We had no problems with checking in or out and the staff is helpful and accommodating when they can be. The Spa area is beautiful and the services offered are superb.

We stayed in a 'deluxe room' in a separate building with an entrance that also has a fireplace with comfy furniture. We had to walk over to the main building for our meals, which was no problem. The room was cramped and could use updating in its furnishings. The television (12 cable channels) and coffee machine are ancient. The air conditioner/fan unit is practically on the bed. The french doors to access the outside patio add a nice touch to the room. The fireplace is a heater and the flames only come on when heating the room, so don't expect a continuous ambient flame. It works very well though and the room can get quite warm. The bathroom is not spacious by any means. The spa bath tub looks like a child's swimming pool, but once you get in, it's actually not too bad if you don't mind just sitting still in your corner. The showerhead is on the wall above the tub and curtains close around it when you want to shower. The toiletry products are nice like Pantene and Dove, but the bubble bath brand is "Voyageur" and we would not subject our skin to it. I suggest your bring your own bubbles ... and candles :) ... if you get a room with a spa bath.

The food is fantastic! We had some meals included in our package and some we paid a la carte at very reasonable prices. No matter what we ordered, the dishes are well presented and spot on delicious. The Sunday Brunch is superb, with something for everyone's taste. The Brunch dessert table is as yummy to look at as it is to eat! Un gros Merci to the Chef and the kitchen staff.

The problem we had was that the Fred Flintstone television remote was not working and we tried for two days to get another one from the front desk. We were told there were no extras available and that it would be looked into. When we received no news the next day, we were told they had not received the message that our remote wasn't working and would look into it. When we still had no news the next day, we were told that there were 20 on order, but they had not come in yet. Then we were told that there were many non-functioning and missing remotes in the rooms and that if enough people complained about it, maybe the admin. would do something about it. First time we see guests have to gang up to get a simple remote. Of course it's not the end of the world to change channels manually, but they should just dump these old sets and modernize with flat screens and real cable.

Also, the walls and doors are thin and we could hear people mulling around in the hallways and our neighbors' televisions, phones ringing and conversations. It did hinder our naps and nights somewhat.

*All in all, a nice place to stay if you want to kick back and be pampered with wonderful food and a great massage.*
