During November 2013, I have visited this place twice. Both times, the food was excellent, the service warm, friendly and attentive, and we enjoyed our time seating comfortably.

There is always a lunch special combination with something new! We took soup and the luncheon special with a salad choice and coffee. The chicken vegetable soup of the day was very good. The chicken drumstick with potatoes and a mixed salad with fruits were very good too. The previous time, my friend and I took the thick soup of the day and a plate with a choice of three salads. The coffee came with a little surprise small piece of cake, also very good.

I am not one to jump to conclusions, so I have had lunch at La Gourmandine several times before venturing to write a review. The format is excellent and great for lunch. As you enter the restaurant you walk by a very large display case with the various selections are displayed. A wait person meets you at the display case and you select what you want for lunch. What you get actually comes out of the display case, so you get what you see. After you have make your selection you find a table and sit down. It has never been more than a few minutes before your lunch arrives at the table. There is a caulk board on the wall with prices and specials of the day listed. There a wide selection of salads, breads, and small dishes make up for the day. Everything is fresh and excellently spiced. I have not had anything which wasn't very tasty and delicious. The wait staff are quick and comfortable in French or English. To top it off, the prices are quite reasonable.

A local bakery that grew into a terrific breakfast/lunch place. Recently moved to larger premises this is a jewel in a town that offers mediocre dining at best. A must stop when in the area!

“La Gourmandine” has a French chef and the cuisine is “fusion”. Gourmandine is open daytime! It has a large variety of food products one can buy and take home too. There is a breakfast menu! And other choices are marked on black-boards, featuring soup, sandwich, or the daily special in various combinations with two or three salads added on the plate. The choice of salads is interesting, there are breads galore, yummy pastry, and beautifully packaged chocolates done right there.

You can combine your own dish by choosing from the beautiful display of exotic salads, terrine’s and other delicacies. I chose the daily special, a veggie-burger and herbed pasta, with three salads. It came on a large rectangular plate with a good cup of coffee, total $13.80. My friend opted for a large cheese bagel and coffee. Everything is prepared, freshly cooked and baked on location. One can meet Chef Nicolas Texier himself at the cash, tending to customers with a friendly smile. On your way out, you might wish to stop in the front boutique where Eugenie Lee can be seen behind the counter with an enticing display of “Little Sins” pastry, cakes, and beautiful gift baskets. The restaurant also offers catering services, and has a second floor reception room for weddings and other family celebrations.

We have visited twice in 3 years while cycling on le Petit Train du Nord. Both times we've had the most enjoyable lunch of our trip. Incredible fresh sandwiches and salads, and the desserts are to die for. We highly recommend La Gourmandine!
