Owner description: There is no better way to experience the spectacular sites and atmosphere of Lunenburg's historic streetscapes and working waterfront than on foot. Lunenburg Walking Tours was created to offer visitors to our UNESCO World Heritage Site town - one of only two such urban sites in North America - an educational and entertaining directed walk through history. Co-Owners Shelah Allen and Ashlee Feener, both descendants from original founding families, bring authenticity, accuracy, and levity, all woven into great stories, to your outing. Tours are at a gentle pace, vary in length depending on the tour, go rain or shine, and require a reservation by phone/text or email.

Amazing place to visit. Everything from houses to churches to waterfront!!! The houses have little plaques on them with who owned and built them and when. Colors are bright. Oldest house there is from the 1700s !!!!!!!!! Amazing history!

We went with a local guide for a short walking tour of the town. Very beautiful and well preserved. One of the most colorful towns I have been to. The Bluenose 2 was very interesting as well.

We were staying in Lunenburg all week long but hadn't taken the time to tour it properly. We had seen a sign down by the waterfront that said daily tours beginning at 10am. Unfortunately, when we got to the sign at 9:55, we read where the tour began at Lunenburg Academy, a hike up the steep streets of Lunenburg!

I am sorry I do not know the young woman's name who was our guide but she was very good. She certainly knew her stuff and kept us going at a nice pace. We learned a lot, too -- not so much as to be overwhelmed. I do wonder if we were short-changed a bit as she had to hustle back up to Lunenburg Academy in order to start another walk with a bus load of folks. Also, we were unable to visit one of the churches as it was being used for a Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival workshop.

I think we paid $20 a person, which seemed high at first, but, once completed, we thought it was a fair price for all that we learned. We passed several shops and restaurants to which we later returned. Even if you only have a day in Lunenburg, take a few hours to do the walking tour, enjoy a meal or two and then spend the rest of the time along the waterfront.

Thank you for your kind words Donna and Janet and we are so glad you enjoyed your time with our co-owner Ashlee. Just to reassure you, while it is true that we sometimes have back-to-back tours, we never cut the one-hour advertised time short. In fact, we often go well over the hour but on jam-packed days we must keep to schedule. Please come back our way again!

This is a UNESCO site which is SO worth visiting. And walking is a lovely way to do it. We began at the Lunenburg Academy and worked our way down historic lanes, in and out of historic churches and down to the wharf. Lovely, lovely.
Our tour operator had us use "whisperers" which allowed me to wander and photograph, without missing anything the guide had to say. She needs to lower her tone when on the Whisperer, however.

Dear Spoonball. We are so pleased you enjoyed Lunenburg during your coach tour visit. With large groups, it is always a challenge to regulate projection on the speaker device to match the different hearing levels, especially when you are as enthusiastic as we tend to become on tour :) Thank you for the reminder to check in with the crowd regarding volume levels. We hope your photos captured many wonderful memories.

Ralph was a great tour guide for our group / many stories / lots of interesting info.

Easy walk around this UNESCO Heritage Village.

Especially enjoyed the church and the school building (although it would have been great to step inside / eerie building).

Thanks Rollngstone. We are so please you enjoyed your tour with the wonderful Ralph. While we were not permitted to offer interior tours of Lunenburg Academy during 2015, you will be pleased to know that during that time the building underwent extensive upgrades. Come back some time, for a Haunted Lunenburg and see it at it's eerie best!
