“good place to stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 November 2011

We read some scathing reviews about Big Horn Hotel before stopping there..........but decided to give it a chance. Actually, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, the room was "funky" but clean and quite comfortable. We would recommend this facility for a comfortable stay.

Don't expect much except a place to sleep. Furniture is brown 1970's. Internet is painfully slow, but OK to check email. Bed was comfortable, but rooms/building has a lot of mechanical noise. Smells a bit odd, but perhaps that's air freshener? Not as nice as "A Nice Motel" but fine if all you need is a bed and a lower price. Value was fair. They could do better by investing in some room upgrades.

I hope I never have to go back to Big Horn, we had to stay there for a business trip. Hotel has no restaurant, some internet with 2byte/sec speed, a noisy bar next to the windows. There is no other alternative in the area. Accept there is a hotel construction planning to finish in 2012. I hope that elevates Watson Lake's accomodation options. There is a grocery store just accross the street so you can buy some food there.

Positive: Sattelite TV in rooms.

P.S:We stayed in August 2010 couldn't choose that option

As others have noted, this is doing pretty good in Watson Lakes. Room was roomy. Some almost antique furniture in the room and a blue bath tub. WiFi worked ok

Do go to the Yukon Visitor Center. They are terrific and very helpful. Also, there is a nice lake that is hardly visible from the road to walk around. Otherwise, Watson Lakes looks like the arm pit of the Yukon.

If this was in a major town or city I would tell you not to stay there. For being in the middle of nowhere then do it. They are pet friendly, wifi, and flat screen tv with cable. The rooms are something from a lower 48 flea market and there is nothing better then a blue tub and toilet. The best part was two guys fighting over a fat chick in the parking lot at 5am. My 15 y/o got a kick out of that.

Stayed here one night while traveling up the Alaskan Highway. My room was dated but very clean (I was shocked they had flat screens). Some of my colleagues complained about the temperature settings in their rooms, however mine was indeed comfortable. I give this hotel an average only compared to similiarly type hotel/motels we stayed in this far off the beaten path. Definitely no bargain though - there just isn't much available.

For the amount we paid, we expected a lot more. WIFI internet was provided free, but there was a sign that said it cost $2.00 + GST. I used it and nothing was said about a charge. We had stayed in Quesnel two days before and had a room that was twice as nice for half the price. The room looked clean, but had a strange smell. We kept the window open all night and had the ceiling fan going. The room was furnished with heavy dark furniture, painted and wallpapered in dark colors and had only one window at one end of the room. Insulation between the floors is minimal or non-existent, as we kept hearing strange noises from upstairs and water flowing in pipes during showers. I kept telling my husband, it's an adventure! Also the lobby was cluttered with stuff and seemed to look more like a messy office than a welcoming space.
