Paddler's Paradise

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 25, 2015
Ralph and Lannie have designed and built a place that has everything sea kayakers would ever want in a resort. The location is easily accessible, the paddling is top notch, the lodge is just fantastic from the wonderful and scenic living/dining area to the gorgeous dock system, and especially the wood-fired sauna, also on the dock. The place is also completely off the grid so you can minimize to eliminate your carbon footprint...in luxury (at least for sea kayakers).

And the paddling is outstanding for all levels. Surge Narrows, 5 minutes away or outrageously scenic easy paddling just off the dock. What surprised me the most is how wonderful a place this is for kids - Many families were having a wonderful time here and took advantage of the day tour - a terrific way to introduce sea kayaking to the next generation.

I plan to be back again and again.

We stayed at the lodge the second week of August for 4 nights and had a wonderful experience. Great set-up for all types of travelers Remote but not too remote, easy to get to but far enoug away that you settle in and relax. Spectacular setting, wonderful sunsets, idillic kayaking for beginners or for experts, friendly kayak guides and lodge hosts who are welcoming and helpful but not intrusive. So convenient to be able to take a guided kayak tour one day, and then rent kayaks the next. Love the flexibility.

Impeccably clean, simple rooms, wonderful private outdoor showers on the deck, and a sauna on the dock. Our kids, ages 11 and 13 had a great time interacting with others, checking th crab trap, being involved in lodge life, clean up and food prep. No electronics since there was no internet. A nice break.

The hike beside the lodge was a wonderful short trek on a rainy day. Lots of board games and cards to enjoy in the evenings while enjoying a glass of wine or cup of tea. Nice breakfasts prepared by the lodge hosts and shared with all the guests.

Just a perfect spot with a wonderful atmosphere of relaxation. We'll be back!

We decided to book a kayak trip for 4 leaving from the Discovery Island Lodge.
The lodge itself is very inviting and the views are breathtaking. Serenity all around. We wished we stayed a night just experience it.
The paddling was also fantastic around the island. Our guide Emily was friendly, knowledgeable and experienced kayaker. While paddling we spotted plenty seals and a few eagles.
The lunch made by our guide was awesome so that was pleasing.
After another few hours of paddling we were back at the lodge .
I highly recommend this trip.

We loved this lodge. We were with our Australian cousins who had never kayaked. The lodge is beautiful and comfortable. The girls who run it were professional and friendly. Breakfasts were delicious. We prepared our own evening meals in the well-equipped kitchen. I can't wait to get back here again. A truly memorable time.

Great host in Beth and team, despite being under the weather, we had a great time. Could not get a better view anywhere. My wife went for a day trip on the river, while I had a game of golf with some of the best view I have ever seen on a course.

We stayed at the lodge for four nights, kayaking every day. The two ladies in charge were delightful, helpful hosts. Rooms were inviting and comfortable. The set-up is European Pension style with common bathrooms and a very large common area with kitchen. Breakfast was included and was hearty for all of us outdoor types.
