Five days in Paddling Paradise

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 25, 2016
While it takes a bit of effort to get to Discovery Island Lodge the rewards are terrific. A wonderfully friendly staff, fantastic breakfasts, a fully equipped kitchen to prepare dinners and views that are amazing. The dock is perfect to launch a kayak and the opportunities are wonderful from beginner to advanced paddlers. I loved this place and will return!!

Excellent four day/night stay despite heavy winds that prevented us from getting out on the water. Spent the time swimming in Main Lake, hiking to Surge Narrows and other spots with varying distances and difficulty. Breakfasts included were good and nutritious. No real problems preparing our own lunches and dinners in the community kitchen. Amazing views from the lodge. Floating sauna available as we needed. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Good to connect with Ralph and Lannie again. Clean and comfortable rooms...shared bathrooms worked well and loved the outdoor showers. All in all....recommend. Only thing ....... roads into the lodge very hard on our vehicle....rough surfaces and loads of hills. Otherwise....great stay.......

This is our second stay at Discovery Island Lodge and we thoroughly enjoyed the outstanding hospitality from the staff at the Lodge. The lodge is well kept and the breakfast was delious and sitting around the breakfast table gave us a chance to meet and chat with people who share a common interest in kayaking and exploring the ocean coast of BC. The kayaking is suitable for persons of all skill levels. We look forward to our third stay at the lodge next summer.

We found this to be a very good balance of getting away from it all in rustic surroundings, but still with some important comforts like a decent bed, hot showers and a well equipped communal kitchen. The open plan lounge/kitchen had comfy couches and a lovely woodburning fire that made it really cozy. Beth and the rest of the staff were exceptional hosts. They were attentive, but not intrusive and made sure we had all we needed. The breakfasts were delicious and imaginative. We did our own kayaking, but guests that did use their guides and equipment were very complimentary.

Room tip: Front rooms (a bit extra) have the best views

My husband and I are geriatric kayakers and stayed here for 3 days recently. We cant say enough good things about the staff of 3 young women who took such good care of us. This place runs like a casual group experience with the fine tuning and organization running efficiently, smoothly and humming right along under the surface. We had great guided group kayak trips, assist with routes to take on our own and answers, education and instruction to all our queries.Pricing is affordable in a incredibly beautiful location. We will go back. Thank you Sabina,Gwen and Emmy for a memorable vacation!

Ralph and Lannie have designed and built a place that has everything sea kayakers would ever want in a resort. The location is easily accessible, the paddling is top notch, the lodge is just fantastic from the wonderful and scenic living/dining area to the gorgeous dock system, and especially the wood-fired sauna, also on the dock. The place is also completely off the grid so you can minimize to eliminate your carbon footprint...in luxury (at least for sea kayakers).

And the paddling is outstanding for all levels. Surge Narrows, 5 minutes away or outrageously scenic easy paddling just off the dock. What surprised me the most is how wonderful a place this is for kids - Many families were having a wonderful time here and took advantage of the day tour - a terrific way to introduce sea kayaking to the next generation.

I plan to be back again and again.

Room tip: Outstanding eco-resort where you are encouraged to tread lightly - not hard here!
