We recently booked a trip to Wildcoast’s fabulous Orca Camp for 3 nights.
The night before the camp we stayed at the Gowlland Harbour Resort. It was great but mostly I remember the seafood linguine at dinner. I am going back there one day, just for that!
Anyway... This was one or our best holidays ever. The highlight was seeing pods of Orcas on the first and last days – from the beach and twice from kayaks. The kayaking and instruction was great and not as difficult as we thought, given that we are not kayakers. There were many opportunities to go out kayaking, but if you wanted to stay behind and relax, there was no pressure.
The guides were knowledgeable, calm, and fun and had great chemistry between them. They made us all feel comfortable right from the beginning.
The camp itself was really special, in terms of location, set up (large tents on wooden platforms with comfortable beds) with some uniquely designed outhouses as well as a hot shower and a sauna. The camp and kitchen ran efficiently and the quiet organization behind the scenes was a great help that allowed us to easily relax.
And finally, the meals! All were excellent with many gourmet touches evident.
Thanks again, Bender (great organization), Tom (thanks for the excellent presentation on Orcas - we learned a lot), Andrea (always working hard), Damon and Julie for a wonderful memorable experience. . We are back in the busy city now, and back to work, but I wish I was still at the Orca Camp! We plan to be back!
