We were trying to find a place for breakfast before our ferry left for Comox, as the restaurant at Beach Gardens was closed for renovations. A local told us about this place and we finally found it, up in the hills, a bit off the main drag. But the drive was worth it. The menu is varied and interesting and even inventive. The food was delicious and the personable server looked very much like the spitting image of a younger version of actress/singer Lisa Minelli, Judy Garland's daughter. And that was a bit of a plus.
I had the Breakfast Bowl, a terrific concoction of crisp hash browns topoped with a loaded egg scramble served with my choice of toast, and my wife choose one of their 3 egg omelets, which she pronounced as very good. The sourdough toast came with a small bowl of delicious, homemade berry jam, another plus.
They also have a large and long blackboard with chalked descriptions of their many lunch offerings including at least nine or ten different sandwiches, homemade chili, meat pies, quiche, soups and much more.
When you're traveling, so many places, especially the fast food chains, just serve up the mundane, the usual, the same old, same old, and the mediocre, so it is always a pleasure to find these little hidden gems.
