“back to basics”
Reviewed 14 April 2012

stayed this weekend, malago is a great product. sod the travel lodges and premier inns this does the same job but slightly cheaper.

warm welcome and friendly. loads of info at the "reception" the room was basic but clean throughout. it was nice to see the tea tray full of tea, coffee and sugar.

the breakfast was continental, but good. it had meats, cereal, big pots of tea. really good. with helpful staff.

one negative, and a big one, is the fire risks, propping fire doors open, and a desk in the corridor, is concerning. this sounds petty but these issues are a case of life or death and should be taken lightly,

please though do not let that put you off, this place is awesome and i would stay there again and again.

For what it is, Malago does really well. The rooms are basic but appear recently decorated and modern, especially with the red walls. Unfortunately, the bathroom had some issues: poor ventilation, very nice taps that were not mixer taps (why???), and a shower with a head that would keep falling. the breakfast was very basic, but for £40 for the two of us for a night how can we complain?

Room Tip: Book early to avoid disappointment.

We stayed in family room 1. This is a very large 2 double bed room, which was quite newly done and very clean. Unfortunately it is on the ground floor and in front, so there was a fair amount of noise from cars and pedestrians (it is right on the pavement). Fortunately not all night.
There is plenty of parking at the back, although getting in and out can be tricky.
Breakfast is not cooked but there was lots of it including many different cereals, lots of pastries, toast, juices, etc.
For £65 for the 1 night for 4 people incl breakfast, really very good value.
Room well equiped but 2 light bulbs were out, which was a little annoying.

This B&B was brilliant. We were greeted on the door and checked in swiftly. The lady quickly found out the nature of our visit (a night out on the tiles) and suggested that as we were a group of girls planning to get slightly worse for ware, we should take out a business card with hotel name and address to give to taxi drivers so we didn't have any trouble getting back to the hotel. We thought this was extremely thoughtful of her to put our safety first. The room was brilliant with lovely decor and a spacious bathroom. Was fantastic value for money as we had a room for 5 people and no space issues at all. Brilliantly furnished and comfortable and had three mirrors (which is important when you are a group of girls). Perfectly situated about a mile and a half from the city centre it is perfect for party people wishing to go out on the town.
The breakfast is continental and there is plenty of it, however, it was only served until 9:30am which isn't great on a sunday if you are wishing to have a lie-in, but it was delicious nonetheless.
The walls in the room were a little thin, and we could hear the water running from the shower in the other room and doors slamming shut but we did not mind, however if you are a lighter sleeper you may want to bare this in mind before booking.
Also, the parking is extremely tight. We had a big car (Citroen C4) and could not park in the car park, but we were able to park in the next street with ease and it was not much of a walk at all.
Overall, we would certainly recommend this hotel and we plan on staying here again. The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and spacious and the location is brilliant - what's not to like.

We needed to book a triple room with 3 separate beds and this property accommodated us perfectly in an extremely spacious attic room. Immaculately clean and comfortable. A little noise on the first night from traffic but undisturbed on the second night with window closed. Didn't go by car so used very regular bus service and taxis. Staff were friendly and attentive. Very pleasantly surprised with the continental breakfast which was plentiful and varied. Definitely a budget choice, but as such can't think of any reason not to recommend it.

A new build with everything you need for overnight. Rooms were clean and modern, staff helpful and friendly, organised a taxi for us. Breakfast self service continental but a good range and lots of it. Car park was a squeeze especially when full.

We stayed here again visiting our daughter and family. Clean / efficient / a good bath / comfy beds with very adequate bedding. A reasonable price and excellent value for money.
The previous occupant had obviously smoked in the bathroom with the fan on which was no fault of the hotel but they made a special effort the next day when cleaning to eradicate the smell successfully. Free parking helps as it is so difficult when you stay in the City centre and the bus service is great.
This family run business has been set up extremely well and all the staff were friendly & helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back are quieter
