We visited here mainly to find the Gromit hidden in its grounds. We parked near the enterance off of the Wells road and wandered down through the cemetery. It is a very tranquill place as you would expect as you wander down through the woodland and the graves. Thrre is a nice little restaurant down at yhe bottom as well although we didnt go in.

I came with my son and two other families with young children (2-9) to see the Gromit at the cemetery. I have been meaning to visit since moving to Bristol but never had a good excuse until now.

I was so pleasantly surprised the minute I drove through the gates. The place is stunning. The kids (after the obligatory Gromit photo) loved exploring a few of the paths and it gave a good opportunity to talk to the kids about losing people we love and having somewhere to go to remember them.

There was a wedding taking place which surprised me but on reflection it’s such a beautiful place why not!! I’d love to come back and explore again with time to visit and read the stones.

You will be advised to go to the shop and information centre before you walk round the cemetery and see the very old and some unusaul gravestones. There is plenty of information on its long history. I purchased several items and received a free CD on the First World War which is interesting

Dear Mkljrc

Thank you for the positive comments about the interesting history of the site but apologies the visit didn't meet your expectations.

Unfortunately back in the 1830s the Victorians did choose a rather hilly location for the Garden Cemetery but it is not our policy to level them (We kind of like them). However there are more gentle walks like our Discovery and ceremonial way trail which are excellent for those who struggle with the slopes. Our buildings also have lifts and ramps to aid access.

Many thanks

Forget Père Lachaise un Paris. Arnold Vale is the most interesting cemetery I have ever visited. A forest full of forgotten grave stones. A magical place to wonder around. You think it would be creepy to walk on small pathways in the woods stumbling over grave stones but it isn't. It is pure magic. Arnos Vale is a place out of a fairy tale!

We weren't quite sure what to expect here and whilst it was not what we were expecting, it was still nevertheless very interesting and informative. Our guide Alan was very knowledgeable and had a nice manner about him. He told the stories of the various people buried there with passion and it made for a fascinating tour(There were some proper dodgy characters in Bristol mind). I would recommend this.
