So authentic, so much flavor! Highly recommend for unique experience with friends or family!! Love the double cooked pork
I've been to China many times for work: Beijing, Shanghai, and other cities, so I'm always sceptical when trying Chinese restaurants in the U.K., as most just sell takeaway style rubbish.
However, SevenDays breaks that curse by serving brilliantly authentic Chinese food. From fish in hot chilli oil, to double cooked pork.
Its clientele is main Chinese residents and students, which helps show its authenticity.
It's now a regular place for me to eat dinner!
I went there with my wife who is Chinese and two of her friends from China. We had the hotpot and they absolutely loved it and found it as good as the ones they have in China.
On the other hand, don't expect to always find British standards in all aspects of the experience: yes, service is not the most friendly but it is how it is in China. It doesn't mean people don't want want to serve you, it is just the way Chinese service is! Similarly, for cleanliness, don't expect to find the cleanest place.
But for hotpots, that's the place to be!
Went early evening, unbooked, with my son when we could not get a table in a (completely empty) Indian restaurant almost opposite. I used to work for a Commonwwealth organisation, and one thing I learnt was that the best Chinese food is found where the other customers are Chinese. Here we were the only white faces in the place. Staff and other customers were friendly and welcoming. The menu is quite unlike the usual Pekinese or Szechuan British restaurants. The food was superb, with no attempt to "dumb down" for western palates, and no loading with extra sugar. Short chicken wings came on a huge heap of dried red chillis and fresh green chillis, and was sensational. Shredded pork came with small pancakes.
But be warned: the portions are gargantuan. The two of us could not finish two main courses and made only a small dent in the accompaying noodles. Go in a larger group if you can, and order half as many dishes as you would anywhere else.
