“Chester Trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2012

We had a wonderful time in Chester, made more special by Beryl. Our room was lovely, the breakfast was excellent. The location is very handy for walking into the Chester, as Rowland house is only about 5 minutes from the Northgate.

Room Tip: We were in room 1 which has a huge bed and a large shower.

We stayed for 3 fabulous nights at Rowland House and wished we could have stayed longer.
It literally is a 5 minute walk into Chester and a short bus ride to Cheshire Oaks (at only £4.40 for a return journey!) with the bust stop at the top of the road.

This guest house is Chesters gem as is Beryl herself! Our room was absolutely beautiful. spotlessly clean (as was the whole house), very well & tastefully decorated and Beryl makes sure that everything you may need in your room is there, from a good hair dryer to facial cleaninsing cloths loveky M&S toiletries. There was even full size of bottles of shampoo and conditioner there for us and the bed was huge and so comfortable you actually look forward to going to bed!!

Beryl greets you with a very warm friendly genuine welcome and is extremely helpful, nothing is to much trouble for her, Breakfast is wonderful and her boiled eggs were done to perfection! There is an excellent choice of cereal and fresh fruit and the toast is served piping hot - delcious!

This B&B is rated a 4* but is a 5* and above without any shadow of a doubt.

We will be returning for a longer visit soon.

We stayed for one night on 26 August 2011 while breaking our journey in Chester.

I can't praise Mrs Rowland highly enough.

Even before we arrived she put herself out to be available for our early arrival and had not asked for any deposit even though this was a Bank Holiday weekend.

The huge bed was incredibly comfortable, the room itself was much larger than average and so was the ensuite bathroom. Even the the TV in our room was bigger than would normally be provided. Everything was beautifully and tastefully decorated, in pristine condition and clean as a whistle.

The location is absolutely ideal, being only a few minutes walk from the city wall yet very quiet and peaceful.

During our all too brief stay Mrs Rowland was again extremely helpful, including giving us very sound advice on where we might have our evening meal (we went to MDs Restaurant, which is Katies Tea Rooms during the day, and it was simply amazing!) and giving us clear directions for the continuation of our journey.

I did say to her that I have stayed in some excellent hotels and that her B & B was every bit as good as them, and that is indeed my view. This probably is not just the best B & B in Chester but probably one of the best anywhere, yet it is very inexpensive.

I am just sorry that we were only there for one night.

We were booked to stay for three nights but due to an unfortunate cycling accident to my husband we only stayed one night. However we shall definitely be back as the house was absolutely spotless. We were given an extremely warm welcome and the breakfast was very good. Beryl was a fantastic support to me when I suddenly had to start contacting the hospital with regard to my husband and had to suddenly return home on my own on the Sunday evening. She is a lovely lady and the short time sitting in the sun in her garden, calmed my nerves whilst waiting to hear from my husband. We shall most definitely be returning (minus the bike) to explore Chester and the surrounding area. It is the third time in the City and by far the best B&B! Thank you Beryl.

My wife and I spent only one night (sadly) at Rowland House, in Chester. Perhaps the finest B&B I've ever stayed in. Spacious room, generously and excellently furnished; huge, sunny bathroom with excellent amenities; fine, modern TV (better than ours at home!), perhaps 8-9 minutes' walk from the very heart of Chester. Even excellent internet performance. Off-street parking. Excellent breakfast. Beryl Rowland is a lovely, gracious hostess who was very helpful in helping me contact American Express over some credit card problems. Only 1 tiny quibble: apparently Ms. Rowland is a tea drinker, since only instant coffee was available for breakfast (although I have to admit -- it was really good instant coffee).
Finding Rowland House is a bit tricky due to the one-way street system and poor street signage in Chester.

Not a bad word can be said about this little bed & breakfast, warm friendly welcome on arrival, room was lovely absolutely spotless as was all the b&b, the bed was very comfortable and everything in great condition. Lovely view from our room great choice at breakfast cereals fresh fruit toast full english and any special dietary requirements catered for if details given when checking in . 15 minute walk maximum to centre and race course so was perfect location. Will definitely book again when returning to Chester :-)

I travel to Chester for the University. Rowland House is conveniently located within easy walking distance for me. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Beryl, the hostess, adds many little extras and is very helpful. The breakfast is delicious. Beryl always has wonderful fresh fruit with the full English breakfast. I travel alone and feel safe and secure staying with her at Rowland House.
