The food is lovely and plenty of choice. They do children's meals which are equally tasty and good value. Eating in the bar is relaxed and enjoyable, dogs allowed, family happy, warm and cosy. Great place with delicious food and drink

Midweek evening meal with wife while on holiday in Newlyn.

One of those menus where you think 'do all of these things go together' and 'there's at least one word I don't recognise in every dish'. But all fairly simple options, really. Starters of cauliflower soup and a kind of a seafood-bean mix, both very nice. Highlight though was definitely the mains: the hake and spelt-like wheat was apparently very nice, but my pork chop: WELL! I never knew such a simple-sounding cut could be cooked so tender and delicious. Went with artichoke and apple cubes wonderfully, with flavours mixing beautifully. I even said to wife: 'we're not having sex tonight now, because it would only be a comedown after that!' Dessert options of figs and treacle tart both very well done. In all, top notch stuff!

We have just returned from eating the most amazing Prime Rib Sunday lunch complete with a huge yorkshire pudding and duck fat roasted potatoes. Very tasty selection of veg, pureed swede, cabbage mix, roasted carrot, and pickled red cabbage which was delicious. No wonder this place has such fabulous reviews. Staff are super friendly and I love the fact that dogs are welcome too!
It is advisable to reserve a table because they fill up fast!

Recommended to us during our holiday in Cornwall, The Old Coastguard certainly didn't disappoint. We arrived for mid morning coffee but within minutes decided to book for lunch too and managed to reserve the last table. Comfortably ensconced in the beautiful garden overlooking the sea with our dog, we whiled away a very pleasant hour having coffee before being collected and taken to our table inside for lunch. Staff even put aside the chocolate brownie we had ordered with our coffee to save until later so we wouldn't ruin our meal! The food was really fresh and very very good, and the wine list extensive. A local couple at the next table got quite chatty, and as incomers (Mousehole residents for about 5 years) visit the restaurant weekly as it is so good. Our dog was welcomed by staff and settled happily under our table, and the service we received couldn't be faulted. The restaurant was full but as it is really well laid out with plenty of room between tables it didn't feel crowded in the least. We set off on a coastal walk after our lunch, promising to return to collect our brownie, and ended up back there for an afternoon cuppa in the garden a few hours later we had enjoyed it so much. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend and we will return at some point.

Really nice rooms but ours had no shower and none have tvs, amenities we were happy to do without. A deep tub welcomed us instead which was welcomed after a strenuous, rugged hike from Porthcurno to Mousehole. We were met with tea and coffee in the pretty restaurant/bar area, sent to our room with a jug of milk for tea. Another jug appeared at7:30 am for our morning tea. My breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, supplemented by a half croissant, grapefruit, ripe melon, and freshly squeezed orange juice was perfect. This hotel has the elegance of the past and would be my choice always in the future.
Lastly, the garden outside the restaurant is lovely. It looks out to the sea and through its gate is a nice walk along a paved sea path.
