Having read all the other reviews we were a little worried what to expect but as we booked through Groupon kept an open mind as it was a real bargain. The hotel is a bit dated but value for money it certainley was.We arrived early and our room was ready the location was superb.
Our room was very big with plenty of space,tv,coffee making facilities and large en suite.
the view was superb and clean.A little tired and yes could do with modernisation.
The staff were very friendly and help full.We had a bottle of wine in the room which was lovely. We were aloud to take the dogs which was a real bonus as we love the walks around cornwall. The evening meal was very good and also the breakfast plenty to eat and real value for money as the deal was very cheap. The pool room was lovely and we had a great game of bowls. The men played snooker in the snooker room and all in all a really pleasant stay.Would recomend on a groupon deal.

We just had a night here, booked via a discount voucher. Probably wouldn't have considered this hotel, if not for the bargain voucher (the name put me off!) but the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. The lobby, lounge and dining room were very clean, tidy and well laid out and welcoming but could do with some updating but saying that, it is charming and very comfortable.
The food was very good and and served promptly, the menu of the day was not extensive and we did note that there was not a vegetarian option but then we didn't enquire about that.
The drinks prices were very reasonable only £4 for a G&T.
We enjoyed the meal, the portion size was just perfect and we had the coffee in the lounge after, along with the company of Sophie the feline resident.
The room was comfortable and clean, everything you needed was there, even a little balcony, which would be great in the summer.
We were treated to wine in the room and a game of bowling, a novel extra to a hotel. The pool was a little cool for me but then I like it warm!
Overall the hotel does need updating but if you are on a bargain trip, I'm not knocking it. Nothing is dangerous or dirty just a little dated.

Similar to other reviews. Staff lovely and very welcoming. Bar and reception area lovely, with a lovely open fire! However, as soon as you pass through the reception area it's like walking into a different hotel. The entire hotel is in need of a complete transformation. Very old fashioned! And not all that clean. The view from our room was brilliant, amazing view of the creek and all the way up to Crantock beach. The room itself was very disappointing.

NOW for the worst part! At 1 O'Clock in the morning, myself and my boyfriend were woken up to a dreadful noise coming from the radiator. At first we assumed it was just ours and frantically tried to sort it out, this failed. After 20 minutes of this, I decided to go down to reception to get someone to fix the problem, only to discover that pretty much the entire hotel guests were also experiencing the same problems. Eventually after about an hour and a half of this, the problem was finally fixed. The following morning, the staff at reception were very apologetic but failed to refund any money or give any coupons! Very shocked and rather annoyed. So all in all, staff lovely. Now they just need a nicer hotel to go with it. Will not be recommending to anybody!

Room Tip: Definitely book a room with a balcony. I dread to think what the other rooms are like!

On arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist. Our room was nice and clean with a good view. Majority of the staff were friendly especially the waiter! The evening meal was a choice of 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts...not enought variation. The room was hot but comfortable but breakfast was disappointing, minimal and expected to pay for extras like mushrooms.

Like the other reviews the best points are:
Friendly staff, nice entrance( bar area), food was quite nice, some nice facilities(we loved the bowling- we had a free session). Drinks were not expensive.

Bad points:
Rooms are stuck in the 70's (could have been a little cleaner to), also we used this hotel via a group-on voucher so it was very good value for money, however, if I was to pay the standard asking price I would have been very disappointed. I was a little cold in the night.

Some tips for the area:
Use a2b cabs (a lot cheaper than the hotel recommended taxi, THINK it was £2 per person anywhere in town). Furthermore, a good pub/restaurant is the Central inn. They had some great offers on quality food. We had 2 sizzling steaks brought out cooking on a volcanic rock with a bottle of wine for £25, all fresh local ingredients (made the trip for us).
