We had a very pleasant 4 night stay at the Lewinnick Lodge in September 2018. We stayed in the Sunset room, which had (almost panoramic!) views of the headland and the water. Our rate included breakfast (which can be had in the restaurant or brought to the room). No extra charge for room service. One cannot go wrong with the sumptuous Cornish breakfast.
We also had dinner at the restaurant on two occasions. The food is excellent.
The seafood in Cornwall is fresh and delicious.
On a side note, Cornwall is one of the most dog friendly I have visited. Almost every one walking on the street had a dog (or two or three!) on a leash. Most places welcome dogs.
A most relaxing and pleasant holiday was had by all!

From the reception to the farewell, we enjoyed every moment. Superb quiet location, a nice room with sea view from the bed, good food in the restaurant, and a very friendly helpful staff. If we ever get to Cornwall again, there's only one address: The Lewennick Lodge !

7 Weeks ago i booked into the Lewinnick Lodge. I payed £247.01 for the room. I was really excited as this was one of many hotels that i would be staying at during my time away from home. During the booking one is required to fill in any special request. I typed Vegan breakfast, soya milk. i also booked an evening meal with my partner (the evening meal is not included in the price) I decided to ring the hotel 2 weeks prior to visiting and spoke to a chef. i explained i was a vegan. he informed me that there was a massive selection of vegan food and they have a few vegan chefs there too. i felt satisfied by this. To be safe i made a further phone call just to make sure there was no confusion between vegans and vegetarians. I spoke to a different male who reassured me that they provide fully for vegans. We arrived at the lodge last week and went to our room which was lovely. however there was plastic pots of cows milk and a card with a cow on it advertising milk!!!!!! We asked for soya milk and were informed that they do not provide soya milk only oat milk and coconut milk!!!!!!!!!!!! We did not see this as an issue as we just wanted to enjoy our time away. The evening meal was simple being a vegan burger.. we paid for this. Keeping to my issue regarding the vegan food...In the morning we went to the restaurant for breakfast. This is what happened. 1. We were given a menu. On the menu there was only one item that was vegan which was pancakes!!!!!!! (I don't eat pancakes for breakfast). We looked carefully at the menu and saw homemade granola.. we asked for this however we were informed we could not have this because there was yoghurt on it. We asked for porridge with soya milk.. the reply was they did not have any. There was no soya even for breakfast. We asked for muslin but they did not have any. i asked for the last with soya margarine...they only had butter...!!! by this time I was not interested anymore. A woman came to me and said you can have honey cone butter which was vegan!!! she brought it to the table and it was frothed up butter!!!! not dairy free. i a slice of dried toast with a tiny bit of maple syrup.. my partner had the pancakes for the sake of it and left half of them!!!! I went to speak to the man who was behind the bar and I informed him of what has happened...!!he said we could have done the granola without yoghurt.. as they do not have soya...We left feeling totally bemused.... during the checkout i spoke to a very nice receptionist and explained what had happened. I asked her what was the purpose of their booking form asking for special requests? she could not answer. i even informed her about my two phone calls i had made prior to the visit. she apologised however I asked for the owners email.. She said she could not provide this . She provided a name and the email of the lodge. I sent an email a few days ago yet no reply so i called the lodge yesterday as i am at home. no one was available to chat and that someone will contact me. An hour later I was called. I explained my situation and half way through the conversation we were both on the verge of it turning toto a light argument. i said i want to keep to the point to prevent any insults etc. Initially he did not see my issue as being a concern as there was so many items to have on the menu!! what he did not realise was that the staff on duty would not allow us to have an item from each of their lists. He then realised that every time i asked for something on the menu i was informed i could not have it on its own!!!!! Heres an example....Proper Cornish Breakfast...Take out the streaky bacon, sausage, eggs and we will have the mushrooms, tomato and sourdough .. we could not have this as the mushrooms were cooked in fat instead of veg oil..! I believe we were on the phone for approx 20 minutes.....Myself and Craig could have had a perfect vegan breakfast if the staff allowed us to mix up the offers on the menu. this demonstrates that the staff need training in hospitality and recognise how they are responding to customers. Its not a place i would return due to the lack of customer care. For £247 for one night one would certainly expect a little more recognition. It may be worth looking at the booking forms and question the value of asking questions which are irrelevant. I appreciate being called back yesterday however i am not sure if my concerns will just disintegrate. He said he would be chatting with the staff to address my experience. I am making all aware not just for vegans, but for nut allergy suffers, muslims, jews etc.....check before you book that what you are paying for is actually provided and the staff live up to what you are paying for... Get written confirmation that your needs have been addressed. When we left the lodge we went to another place which excelled in providing ample vegan options for breakfast.. even fruit salad was provided. When i was in the business long at the airport there was a vegan menu!!! I don't have a disease and understand that a vegan diet is very pure.. its not science to provide a simple vegan breakfast. I am hoping that if i get a response for this review i would hope that there will be systems put in place re: staff training and reading of booking forms..Please no excuses. thank you. on a positive note the lodge is set in a great cliff location which was delightful and the bar staff in the evening were great xxx

Dear Susan

Thank you for your review and feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed our
stunning location and the evenings in the bar.

Regarding the milk in your room, as you mentioned in your review we do offer
two dairy-free alternatives (Oat Milk and Almond Milk) and we have taken
note that we should make this clear in our rooms for our hotel guests that
they can request these if they would like to do so. I am sure you will understand our decision not to stock soya milk due to the much publicised debate around it's negative impact on the environment.

We apologise that you did not find the evening menu offerings suitable. We feel we do offer a good variety of vegan options on both our lunch
and evening menus. Just under a third of all of our evening menu dishes are
either vegan or can be served as a vegan option.

It is extremely disappointing to hear that you were not able to have the
breakfast you would have liked as "mixing and matching" the breakfast items
is something we are very used to and happy to oblige our guests whenever
requested and, as you describe, provide the "perfect vegan breakfast". We
feel this may have been a communication error on the part of our staff and
have taken steps to ensure this situation would not happen again. We offer
our sincere apologies that you did not get your perfect breakfast during
your stay.

Our guests' satisfaction is at the heart of all we do and we pride
ourselves on being a leader in the hospitality industry and always endeavour
to extend the warmest of welcomes to all our guests and meet all their needs
as far as we can. The feedback we receive inspires us to continually strive
to improve our service and the training of our staff. Please be assured we
have taken all your comments on board and will be implementing some changes
to our processes and staff training to clarify communication with our guests
regarding what is available for them.

Many thanks.
