Arrived for an overnight stay while visiting St. Ives.
The grounds and views are lovely but it’s clear they have spent all their money on the exterior upkeep as the castle interior & facilities are severely lacking.
The indoor pool and changing rooms are extremely dated and in need of renovation. They have tried with the Brasserie which has been done cheaply and in the wrong era. Unfortunately it’s not in keeping with the rest of the castle, which leaves it feeling a naff.
Our room inside the castle was the biggest disappointment, leaving us feeling ripped off. We had to change rooms as the mattress was shameful. The 2nd room we where shown was just as bad but it was clear it wasn’t going to get any better. The mattress was probably the worst we’ve EVER slept on (that includes hostels in my younger years).
The shower was lukewarm at best, the tea/coffee and shower facilities were barely there and the overall decor was poor. Don’t be fooled by the carefully selected photos.
In hind’s sight we should left and stayed somewhere else as soon as we saw the room.More
