Having spent hours watching Julien Picamil demonstrating his cooking on You Tube, my husband and I decided to take a trip from Okehampton to Dartmouth so we could go to his shop and sample some of his delights. After a 1.5 hour trip in heavy traffic, we arrived at this delightful little shop/restaurant. We were disappointed that we had driven so far to be totally ignored by an elder woman who was arranging some small cakes in the shop counter. When she finally served us she was the most sour faced woman we have ever had the misfortune to meet. No welcome or greeting, no smiles, and no conversation at all. The French staff all seemed lovely, and very helpful. However, this English woman really needs to be taught some customer care, and maybe a lesson from the French in manners wouldn't go amiss! Having said all that, the food was everything that we had dreamed it would be. A little bit on the pricey side, but having watched the videos we knew that Julien only sources the best ingredients, so we really didn't mind paying a little extra. The brie and caramelised onion quiche was the best we have ever tasted ( we went back and bought some more to take home!) I had the Chocolate eclair and my husband had the coffee eclair, they were unbelievably delicious, and the Creme Patissiere inside the eclairs was just amazing! Thank you Julien for your fabulous videos, and for this wonderful little shop. We will be back!
