Thanks so much. It makes it all worthwhile after all the effort! Cheers Martin
My husband, children and I have stayed at Spyglass twice now, and are hoping to return to celebrate my 40th birthday next year. I have fallen completely in love with Dartmouth, and the views over the Dart from this characterful, cosy little property are simply stunning. The cottage would suit a couple, but we managed quite nicely as a family of four (as a family of five last time, actually, with the older children in the twin beds and Nancy in the same room in her travel cot!). The castle is a little under a mile from the property, and my favourite morning run is there and back - steep on the way, more gentle on the return! We found Spyglass to be exactly as advertised: it is quiet, comfortable and original, and nautically themed. One thing we did have a quandary over was recycling, but Martin (the owner) was very helpful with this and told us where to find the recycle bins next to the main town car park. Martin was fantastic all round, actually; really friendly and helpful. Do take care with the steps up to the property and the steep ladder up to the roof terrace (where we sat in the glorious August sunset, basking in the views, after the kids had gone to bed - bliss!). That said, none of us - even my accident-prone son - ever came a cropper. Spyglass is one of those real gems you feel lucky to have found and, if you're anything like us, will want to return to again and again. As an added bonus, it's mere metres from the top notch chip shop and pub (if you are so inclined), and to take the kids crabbing we simply had to walk down the steps and then down a few more to the Dart. It's also virtually opposite the ferry, which we used a lot (worth buying the book of tickets for multi-crossings if you're going to cross more than 3 or 4 times).
Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review, it is much appreciated. We have made some pretty big changes to Spyglass, especially the first floor, but don't worry - it has lost none of the character. Cheers Martin
