“Ok but should have been good”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2012

Mainly good, clean rooms, but very creaky old beds, and noisy on a Friday night. Strange drilling sounds in the building at 7am too.

Bathroom was not good, was on 3rd floor and there was a giant hairball in the bath. No shower fixed to wall, just the head.

Lovely breakfast, but tired decoration in the landings and communal parts as you went higher up the building. Just with attention to detail could be really special, but letting things slip,

In most respects we liked this hotel. It is well located. The bedrooms are quite large with large bathrooms and are clean. The staff are friendly and pleasant. There are good breakfast options with vegetarians catered for. Unfortunately we did have problems. Firstly there were house flies in the bedroom and bathroom. We drew this to the attention of staff soon after arrival, but apparently nothing was done as the numbers increased over the next three days. There is clearly a problem here, which needs to be addressed urgently, as the source of the infestation appears to be inside the building. Secondly there was no cold water in the bathroom hand-basin and finally the wardrobe was not tall enough to hang overcoats properly. This could be a very good hotel and it will be if these issues are resolved.

We stayed in the Queens Court because of its central location and one of the few places with parking. The staff were friendly but the hotel was really poor

We paid extra to get a good room but the one we got wasn't great. For a start it smelt funny, the double bed was 2 beds pushed together and no attempt had been made to disguise this so it was really uncomfortable- the sheet hadn't even been tucked in!

In the bathroom the products were cheap and the toilet roll had about 6 sheets on it, it should have been replaced. The hairdryer was one you have to keep the button pressed in all the time when using it and it died after about 3 minutes, a hotel like this really should supply proper hairdryers

It was really overpriced, for the cost you would expect free wifi!

Breakfast wasn't great, the coffee was weak and the eggs undercooked

So the location is superb (very central), the staff are wonderfully helpful and pleasant and the room was good sized and spotlessly clean (inc linen). However, you get the impression it's owned or managed by someone who never stays in hotels and has no experience of being a customer.

When your customers are paying £110 for a room, to charge extra for internet access is abhorrent - this is 2012, not 1997. Also - why put travel hand dryers in the rooms? If we want to use an awful, limited, powerless travel hair dryer, we'll pack one! Put decent ones in the rooms. The toiletries seemed cheap and the corridors a bit tatty. Also, we had to slam our room door to shut it.

It could be good with a little bit more focus on the detail and customer experience. We left annoyed and disappointed, as it wouldn't cost the hotel much to improve these things.

This small hotel has a great atmosphere and a superb chef. Even the breakfast was extra special and well worth taking time and relaxing over. The bedroom was well appointed, comfortable and a good size and everywhere was spotless and well maintained. We will certainly return should we want to stay in Exeter again. The central location was a big plus and one of the resaons for our choice in the first place and we felt we had chosen well.

Room Tip: Our room was to the rear of the hotel but we were not aware of any problems with front rooms.

I stay here whenever I come back to Exeter to visit my family. I'm never disappointed as it has everything I need. The breakfast is nice and staff are very helpful and friendly. The dinners I've eaten in the Olive Tree restaurant are always very good. It's very central to town so perfect for doing a bit of shopping if you have chance during your stay.

Room Tip: I like a room on the back of the hotel as it overlooks the gardens

A highly recommendable hotel with beautiful, spacious and clean rooms in a peaceful little square in Exeter and only a short walk into the center. Our room overlooking the square was light with lovely thick carpets, a comfortable bed and pleasant ensuite bathroom all tastefully aesthetically decorated in keeping with a period hotel. And it was one of the cheapest hotels we'd found on the internet! The staff were friendly and accomodating and there's a carpark opposite the hotel and it's not too far from the university - the reason for our visit. We'd definately stay there again.
