We saw the place wherefrom Mayflower sailed away with the först emigrants to The New World. You could feel the wings of history.
We visiter St Ives, had afternoon Tea and also tried Cornish pasty. The sandy beaches were wonderful and children were playing in the sand as it was low tide.
We visited also the little fishing village of Polperro and tried their cider.
Also the ruins of King Arthur's castle in Tintagel. Very steepy path and most of the visitors made a jeep ride up again.

Room tip: I think most of the rooms were good.

Booked the hotel for the location and inclusive parking. We didn't have dinner there as we'd booked to eat at the theatre. However the breakfast was good and service also good.We did have a problem with our bill but the receptionist was excellent and sorted it all out for us. With a smile. We are looking to book again on our next theatre trip.

Room was fairly basic but exceptionally clean and had all amenities. Only reason for not giving full marks was the issue i had with the shower and water temperature which the staff failed to help with.

I found this hotel to be thoroughly professional and value money money. If you want film like productions and a world of glamour and glitz then spend £500 not £120 - and don’t stay here.
I was nervous looking at a couple of other reviews (but by no means the vast majority) but my concerns about the few who seem to think it is tired and didn’t get the world they expected was very misplaced.
This hotel has generally been updated and modernised - certainly in public areas and in my superior room. It is comfortable and 3/4 star ish. It does not try to be anything more.
Impeccably clean and with quality fittings.
It was smart and well presented but was not intended to be and is not a 21 century mass produced plastic product. It has good quality character but that means not everything If you want that stay at .a chai which are all the same then go there. It is not tired or boring. It is a modern character hotel. The staff were superb, the ambiance excellent and value for money. Clearly some reviewers don’t choose the right hotel. This hotel says it is traditional. It was and was good at it. I throughly enjoyed my stay and cannot fault it. Want a nice reasonably luxurious hotel (and it was) which has standards and is good at what it does stay here. If you want posing, mass production, every room the same and glitz and pretension then don’t.
I would recommend it for those who want individuality and style with very effective staff.
Food was good and well presented.
Well worth staying if you a nice relaxed quality but measured hotel.

Good afternoon, thank you for taking the time to leave a review, it is really appreciated. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your visit and that you appreciated the traditional charm and splendour of the hotel! The hotel owner, Walter, invests a great deal of time and money into maintaining and indeed refurbishing the hotel to the highest level. As you said, the hotel is full of character and offers guests something different from the everyday chain hotels. Thank you so much again for your kind comments, we look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future. Best wishes, The Duke Team.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The entrance to the hotel from the car park smelt musty masked by artificial air freshener! The reception staff were outstanding, wonderful girls. Our room, 501 was not good, the mattress was very poor quality and lumpy. The pillows were flat and must be years old, is shudder to think how many people have slept on them. Then there was the “shower” . The knob to stop the water running out the taps up to the shower head wouldn’t stay up because the pressure wasn’t strong enough making a shower impossible. A very lovely gentleman did come and “fix” it but all he did was make only the hot come out the shower and no cold so it was scolding hot! The cold was still coming out the tap below. The staff here are all fantastic 10 out of 10 but the decor, beds, bathrooms all need urgent upgrading!
Our flight was delayed to come home and we were booked in the Jury’s Inn for the exact same nightly price, what a difference! Same friendly staff but clean fresh carpets, beds, exemplary water pressure. I highly recommend the management team at The Duke book into another same priced hotel for the night to experience the difference in quality! It really doesn’t need to loose any of its charm or character but it does need brining up to 2018 standards, or a vast reduction in price.

Room tip: Budget hotel at luxury prices too expensive.
