Just got back from a fab stay at the Headland Hotel, so found the last review strange. We had a great stay, went with my mum, dad and eleven year old, we had two rooms, both were very well equipped, hairdryers, tea and coffe tray and a nice range of soaps and handcreams in the bathroom, the beds were very comfortable, with great sea views and the rooms were cleaned every day to a high standard

The restaurant was great, the staff were lovely and could not have done any more for you. The choice on the menu was very good, with veggie options and meat and fish every night. A great kids menu that they can mix and match from the main. The food was very well cooked and presented with a range of fresh veg, the puddings were great, one of our party is diabetic and there was one reduced sugar option every night along with diabetic ice cream. The other choices were great too chocolate and orange mousse with clotted cream is one to try. We had a lovely table over looking the sea.

The weekend great, cream tea on arrival, pimms before dinner with Morris Dancing in the Hydro Bar after one evening and a great magician the other, strawberries and cream and afternoon tea on Sunday. There is a pool table and a outside heated pool, we even found the mini gym with the best views you can get. The outside terrace area is a lovely place to sit and the gardens are very well looked after.

We would love to return and really would happily recommend it to anyone. A great relaxing way to spend the Jubilee

Just returned home from a weekend away in Torquay after staying at the Headland Hotel. We have been here before some years ago and only booked to stay again as we wanted a last minute getaway and the hotels we normally stay at in Torquay, The Osborne and The Imperial Barcelo, were fully booked. We would not stay here again and would only return to Torquay if one of these two hotels were available.

We were staying in room 116 which was the only standard room left when we booked. No wonder it was the last room left, it had a very uncomfortable bed (which was only a queen), no bath in the bathroom just a shower and the noise made by the taps when turned on was hurrendous. The bathroom had a very potent smell on our first day but did fade. There are only stud walls splitting the room next door and you could hear everything, the worst noise was the fan from their bathroom. It woke us up both nights and all in all we had two of the worst nights sleep in a very long time.

The food in general is OK, but definately not up to the standards of the last time we visited. I had fish both nights, on the second night it was extremely dry, like it had been sat in the oven keeping warm all night. Deserts were not good - as we are a young couple we did not need sugar free deserts that were on the menu. They tasted very bland and on the last night my partner had nothing for desert as there was not a good choice. If I was you I would stick to the icecream! The waiters were very attentive, but too quick for our liking. They like you in and out and before you've even finished your mouthful of food the plate is took from beneath you.

On our last morning we had been out to Hennessy's cocktail bar for some drinks the night before so decided to have breakfast delivered to our room. When I called reception they said this would be £5 (extremely high for someone to walk up a flight of stairs and deliver a tray, in most hotels it is only around £3!), however when we went to pay for this on departure, it was £5 per person so a total of £10 per couple. Absolutely outrageous for a hotel to charge this much and out of all the hotels we stayed at this is by far the most expensive for delivering a breakfast.

All in all not a good stay and as expressed above will not be returning.

Room Tip: Do not use room 116 and if you are given this room on arrival I would suggest you ask for another.

Thank you for your feedback, following your recent stay. I am sorry that you had issues with your room, particularly when a brief call to our Reception would have resolved matters.
In the Restaurant we could have readily changed any dish which you were not entirely satisfied with. We only have one sugar-reduced option amongst at least four other home-made desserts daily. I am glad that you found our waiting staff attentive, and as such they would gladly have adjusted the pace of service to suit you, if you had only mentioned it.
When you called to enquire about Room Service, I myself clearly advised you that there was a £5 per person charge, as also displayed in your room's information folder, before taking your order for two full breakfasts. One of the two hotels you mentioned, in fact charges exactly the same as us for Room Service, the other does charge less, but both charge considerably more for everything else.
Despite us being your reluctant third choice, I am confident that a few words to us, whilst you were, here could have had you leaving as very happy guests, rather than clearly disgruntled ones.

We stayed at the Headland Hotel earlier this week for 4 nights. Our en-suite room was spotlessly clean, as was the rest of the hotel, the food was very good with a 6(!) course dinner menu each evening as well as a good breakfast each morning. The staff were all very helpful and there is free wi-fi and a heated outside pool. We are all senior citizens so the thought of walking downhill into the centre of Torquay, and especially uphill on the return to the hotel, would have been daunting except that the excellent hotel Manager arranges a free taxi service at10.30 am for guests wishing to go into town and a return service at 4.30pm, incredible!
All-in-all, a very good experience and in a very pleasant part of Torquay.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the first floor at the rear of the hotel if you want a sea view.

We stayed at this hotel for four days in May. The rooms were clean spaciouse and well furnished.
The veiw from our room was a full panaramic view of the bay.
There was a warm welcome from the manager as we arrived advising us of the lay out of the hotel and that if there was nothing on the menu we fancied they could always provide an alternative.
Menu would be hard to not find something to satisfy all guests. This hotel also caters for wide and varied diets. The only down side was the slowness to clear the tables between courses. However the hotel was fully booked and ALL the staff worked extremely hard. The manager TOBYN was superb. We would love to stay in this hotel again. The hotel also provides a free taxi service to and from the town centre much appreciaated.

We stayed at the Headland at the end of April when the South experienced the big storm. The views from the hotel, being on the cliff top were amazing. the hotel is right by the coastal path. Torqay marina to the right, Meadfoot beach to the left. Everything at the hotel is first class, rooms food and two very profeshional acts each night. All of the staff could not have been better. One very small critisism. The bulbs in the bedside lights were very low wattage, If you want to read in bed take your own bulbs.

Thank you for your feedback, and we are delighted you enjoyed everything about your stay so much, despite the freak weather we unfortunately experienced. Your comments on the bedside light wattage have been taken on board, and remedied where necessary. We hope to welcome you back later this year.

We arrived at the hotel just in time for the evening meal and was greeted at the reception by the manager. We found our way to our room and headed for the dining room where the fantastic 6 course evening meal awaited us. We have stayed here before and knew what a treat we were about to have. The service was once again excellent.
Our room was not as nicely located as the last time as we had left it late to book this year. Last Easter we had executive rooms overlooking the beautiful garden and with a sea view. Having said that the room was spotlessly clean as is the rest of the hotel. The room had also recently had a new bathroom fitted and was very comfotable and well equipped.
We had a lovely stay and the only problem we had was having some fuel stolen from the car which we had to park some way away from the hotel on a very quiet road. Luckily there was very minimal damage and the Manager was extremely concerned as they had not had this happen in the past. The car park can be very congested at times and it's worth getting there a bit earlier to get a decent spot.
All in all a really good relaxing weekend break and we certainly intend returning when we are next visiting Torquay.

Room Tip: It costs a bit more but the executive rooms overlooking the garden and with sea view are worth it.

Thank you for your excellent feedback and we are thrilled you so liked your stay. Although your room was not an Executive one this time, I am glad you found an alternative one comfortable and well-equipped. I was very concerned to hear about your fuel, and we will be closely looking out for anything like this, along with our neighbours. Our parking improvement plans with the Council will relieve congestion once passed, hopefully before your return visit to us.

I would certainly recommend this very friendly hotel. The weekend break was a lovely surprise from my other half. I couldn't believe how reasonably priced he said the stay was. We were upgraded to an executive room and had a pot of coffee and biscuits on arrival. The six course evening meals were beautifully presented and served efficiently by Peter. Breakfast was excellent. Had the weather been a bit warmer I would have gone in the heated swimming pool!!! A taxi into Torquay is provided at 10am daily which picks up again later in the afternoon. The walk back along the coastal path was lovely but very steep in parts. We will go back again because we couldn't fault it. The manager even gave us his parking space!

Room Tip: If you want an early night avoid a room above the ballroom. I felt that the entertainment finished a...
