“Comfortable base from which to explore Dorset”
Reviewed June 4, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We spent a week in this lovely cottage with our three lively children, aged 8,6 and 3. We loved walking from the garden down to the Fleet and back. The view of the Fleet and the sea was wonderful and we felt very close to nature, despite being able to get to Weymouth easily. This is a good spot from which to explore all the other parts of Dorset too, particularly the SW Coast Path.
The cottage was warm and comfortable and we all slept extremely well. Wifi was a bonus and the kids loved the little "playroom" and all the DVDs, books and games it had to offer, and playing out in the garden.
The kitchen is very well stocked with everything you could need - even baking stuff for a wet day. To make it perfect, I'd put in a dishwasher.
Thanks for a lovely holiday cottage.

“Superb views and location”

We've just had a fabulous week at Moonfleet Cottage. We stayed there with my parents and our 8 month old son. The cottage is located along a private road that leads to a campsite and is on the end of a row of 4 terraced houses (we didn't see the neighbours all week). There is a long garden at the front which is split in to sections with views over a field down to Chesil Beach and the sea. Behind the house is a small yard and heath which slopes down to the side of the cottage and is home to a herd of cows. The cottage is in a great location, only about 10 minutes from Weymouth but in a very tranquil area with amazing views and walks.

You enter the cottage at the rear into a small reception room which has the downstairs toilet off it and then through to the hall. There is a laundry room with washing machine, sink and fridge freezer and next to this is the bathroom which has an over bath shower and basin. The lounge has a TV, DVD player and VCR with double internal doors opening to a small sitting area that runs along the front of the cottage to the kitchen diner. This is where we sat in the evenings and watched the birds in the garden as well as looking out to sea. There is also a small patio directly outside of the cottage with a table and chairs. The dining table was big enough to sit around for a meal and the kitchen was adequately equipped.

Upstairs there is a large master bedroom with 2 beds you can have together or as a twin. Next to this is a smaller double room and a further twin room. There is a toilet upstairs as well as a “snug” type room through a small arch with children's toys. Our little chap was too young but children aged between 2 and 10 would probably love it..

The high chair was just a booster seat which our son was too small for but there was a travel cot and stair gate. The garden was also very secure and safe with a small slide making this a good choice for young families. There was a reasonable phone reception but only a data connection in a couple of spots (upstairs toilet being one of them!!) We found the cottage was big enough that you could find your own space if you were staying with a large group and along with the 2 toilets we didn't get under each others feet. The bathroom downstairs took a bit of getting used to but wouldn't stop us from going back. There were also nice little touches such as a vase of fresh flowers and a pint of milk in the fridge and not forgetting a pack of biscuits, tea, coffee and sugar on our arrival.

We were very lucky and had a whole week of sunshine so we were out every day. There's quite a bit to do in the local area or you could easily spend the day at the cottage in the garden or go for a local walk along the coast. There is no beach suitable for bathing in easy walking distance but plenty of walks and numerous pubs we drove to in the area serving good food. There is also a shop and pub in the campsite which is a 5 minute walk from the cottage.

We loved staying here for all the reasons mentioned above and would definitely recommend to friends and family and would like to go back ourselves.

“Well equipped cottage in a great location with wonderful views”

We stayed at Moonfleet for a long weekend. Our group comprised two families - a total of four adults and two toddlers.

The cottage is in a fantastic location with spectacular views and lovely walks from the front door. There is lots to do in the area for families - we enjoyed Monkey World (half an hour drive), lunch at the Hive Cafe on the beach and a day building sandcastles on Sandsfoot Beach in Portland Harbour.

The cottage has everything you could need for a self catering stay with helpful touches like tea and coffee and condiments provided. It's a great property for children with a playroom that our two-year-old boys loved and lots of toys and books to keep them occupied and a slide in the garden. A stairgate, cot and booster seat for dining were all waiting for us. It's also a very sociable house so ideal for friends travelling together. The kitchen is open plan to the dining / sun room which has lovely views. We spent every evening in this room, eating, drinking and chatting after the children were in bed.

All in all a fantastic break - highly recommended.
