A great wet day out in Dorset yesterday involving 4 small museums plus the main reason, seeing Dippy the dinosaur in the Dorset County museum.
Didn’t visit the main museum itself (didn’t have time) which you have to pay for, but had booked a slot to see Dippy. You have to do this online, though it is free. It simply avoids queues and crowds.
Very good, set in a wonderful hall with a balcony running all around so you get a fantastic view of the skeleton.
Lovely old building and a great visit.

Thank PhilnSheila

The Dorset County Museum is a great place to visit with or without Dippy being there. We visited with our grandchildren aged 9 and 6. We all found the museum very interesting. Time has been taken to provide activities to engage children as you go round the exhibits in tbe different rooms and there is such a lot to see. The volunteers are on hand and knowledgable too which adds to tbe experience. We did not book to see Dippy but as we arrived fairly early we were pleased to be allowed to see him as well as the rest of tbe museum. The visit was well worth the cost of entrance to the museum and I would go again. I would recommend visiting as early as you can though. It got so busy that by tbe time we took a break for lunch, the queue to get in was down the street!

Came here to see Dippy on tour, didn't pay to see the rest of the museum. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Popped in to see Dippy. Well worth a visit to Dorchester Museum if you are in the area. I recommend you book however towards the end of the day the museum is quieter and you may be let in. It is great for all ages to see the dinosaur up close and in a smaller space than the Natural History Museum. Dippy is there until May.

There are soveniers to purchase at the end of the tour. Why not take a tour of the museum at the same time.
