Description: Considered by many to be Brighton's best restaurant, backed up by its status in the Good Food Guide, The Restaurant at Drakes is an elegantly stylish setting for any occasion. Subtle lighting casts moody shadows across exposed brickwork and rich colours throughout the intimate dining room while Drakes cocktail bar offers airy sea views and excellent cocktails. The kitchen team insist on the best of ingredients, fresh and seasonal, including fish bought daily from local fishing boats, to create the excellent, refined menu. A special place, unpretentious in its warm atmosphere, it's easy to see why The Restaurant at Drakes has such a reputation.

Lovely quiet small restaurant with good menu and lovely food.

It's not cheap but not expensive either. The service is great. Really friendly but not obtrusive - quite romantic.

Booked the taster menu meal whilst visiting Brighton.

Started by having cocktails in the bar beforehand - the barman was so accommodating, demonstrating his knowledge on all the cocktails & helping us choose the right one - watching him make it was an event in itself!!

The meal was excellent - 7 courses, all accompanied by a wine, with both the dishes & wines explained by the waiter/waitress. The food was of a very high standard & very creative - all complimented brilliantly by the wine!!

The staff were excellent throughout.

Back upstairs for cocktails again to finish off the evening, where once again the barman was very helpful.

Couldn't recommend Drakes highly enough - a real find!!!

We were staying in the hotel for two nights and had pre-booked for Drakes for last Friday evening.

The restaurant was very busy but we had a nice corner table. I had halibut with basil oil followed by the peach cheesecake. The set price for 2/3 courses was reasonable and we had a nice bottle of Sancerre. Our waitress was good as were all the staff.

But back to that halibut, it was probably the best cooked one I have had to date. Very fresh and moist in the middle with a lovely sauce and cauliflower and white bean purée. Unusual but really worked. It was obviously a popular dish as some diners, who came down at about 8:45pm were told it had run out.

chef Andy was the sous chef two years ago and is now in charge of the kitchen. The food was delicious. I am really looking forward to my next stay there.

We dined here while staying next door, and entertained two friends. All of us agreed that the meal was a real treat.
Drinks were taken in the comfortable bar on the ground floor, and the restaurant is downstairs in the airy and well decorated basement, where the tables are well spaced and beautifully laid.
The four of us had a variety of dishes, all finely cooked and presented. The wine list offers well selected choices from around the world. We had an excellent Grüner Veltliner from Austria and a fine Gigondas from the Rhône.
Altogether, this place is well worth a visit.
