“Excellent value for money at Special Offer Price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2012

Wonderful 2 day break at a Special Offer Price of £57 per room including breakfast! Room was very large, clean and beautifully furnished with 2 large, comfortable single beds, two lovely armchairs and flat screen TV. Bathroom was also large and very clean with super white fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries. The view was not good but was what we expected for the price we had paid and as we spent very little time in the room it did not detract from a super break. Breakfast was superb and apart from everything you could ask for from a buffet there was also a small menu of chef specialities such as eggs benedict and smoked haddock. All the staff were excellent and very pleased to be of assistance at any time when asked. All in all a very pleasant stay at a beautiful hotel, well done to all the staff we encountered and we hope to be able to take advantage of any further offers in the future.

Thank you for your recent feedback on Trip Advisor.

I’m very pleased that you had such an enjoyable visit and felt that the special offer price you secured represented value for money.

I’m glad to hear that you felt you were ‘spoilt for choice’ at breakfast. We receive so many great comments on our extensive breakfast offering and it’s always our aim to provide options for all palates.

We look forward to welcoming you back and hopefully in the future you will get the opportunity to stay in one of our front facing rooms, where the views of Brighton seafront are truly superb!

Thanks again.

This Review is from the perspective of a 30yr old Husband & Wife from Las Vegas USA
I must start off by telling you that this Hotel: The Grand, Brighton is a famous Landmark with a Legendary Status built in 1864. While you stay at this hotel- Anyone is the surrounding areas who may inquire as to where you are staying - when you answer "The Grand" EVERYONE will give you a Whoooooo- Lovely!! It is a VERY Old hotel that has seen its share of unbeleivable experiences and famous guests over the years. Well, The Grand wants to KEEP It this way!
In the rooms: You may see torn wallpaper, lots of caulking, and you may even have several heating/cooling systems on the floor of your room because the original ones are indeed broken. In America we are a baby of a country as in everything is new- and the few old gems that excist are often torn down to create something new/modern. That being said if you are from America - And are expecting or looking for a New or Remodeled Hotel of Perfection- You would truly be MISSING OUT on a Life Event type Experience you get with your stay at The Grand!
They DO Offer Exceptional 5 Star Service- Like the service you feel at the Ritz Carlton in Dana Point. The Staff Service will make you FEEL like you are at the most Luxurios hotel in the word. From the Bell-Hop, Front Desk, Room Service & Dining Rooms- Everyone Goes ABOVE & BEYOND!! Service with a Smile & So Much More! This incredible service may even begin to trick your brain into beleiving the hotel is Gorgeous- and it actually is - in its very own amazing and legendary type of way.
I will be posting pictures of our room and more so you can see the hotel in REAL photos. I would ABSOLUTELY Stay Here again- In a Heartbeat! Legendary Hotel, Stunning Location, and Service fit for a Queen or King! SIMPLY SAID: WE LOVE "THE GRAND" IN BRIGHTON

Room Tip: 1) GET A ROOM WITH BREAKFAST INCLUDED 2) IF POSSIBLE BOOK A SEA VIEW ROOM If possible book yoursel...

Just returned after a two night stay....what can I say, from entering the hotel everything was superb! Had booked a two night special for my husband & I & our friends, asked at reception if we could have an upgraded room. The receptionists were lovely & upgraded us to rooms that were beyond our wildest dreams, our rooms were even next door to our friends. To be honest we were just as happy to sit on the balconies to watch the world go by but we did venture out. All the staff were very friendly & helpful, breakfast was great so much to choose from! De Vere should be very proud of their staff who work at the Grand it really was a memorable two days for us all & I can't thank you enough! We really didn't want to come home & can't wait to return.
Thankyou

Thank you for kind comments and I am pleased you had such an enjoyable stay.

There are occasions where our reception team can offer room upgrades and I’m glad that you had the opportunity to experience our sea view rooms. I completely agree that on a sunny day in Brighton there is nothing better than taking in the sea air and enjoying the stunning views from the balcony.

I will be passing on your comments to the teams following your complimentary feedback on the service you received. Our teams work very hard to ensure an exceptional stay for all and customer recognition further drives our team’s commitment to offering great service, so thank you.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

We arrived at the hotel on Easter Saturday somewhat concerned about parking; we need not have worried however, as the doorman immediately came over to the car, asked whether we would like valet parking and then, with our agreement, took our car keys, suitcases and assured us that our cases would be in our room when we returned from lunch. We had tea in the bar, where there was a pianist and a roaring fire. The area had a lovely atmosphere, and although busy, wasn't noisy.
Our room was a good size, with a huge, comfortable bed and an equally large bathroom. Breakfast the next morning was good, and the service speedy and efficient. I would definitely stay here again.

Thank you for your kind comments on Trip Advisor following your stay over Easter.

I am glad to hear that you received such a warm welcome and that your car parking needs were attended to so promptly. Our Valet Parking service is an additional feature which sets us apart from our competitors and it really does provide a “stress free option” for those traveling up by car.

After a car journey, I can imagine that it was nice to relax in our lounge with a good pot of tea.

We are continually praised by our visitors on the ambience and relaxing feel that our lounge offers. I’m pleased that you felt this too.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Regards

One night stay on 11th April 2012. The Grand Hotel was undoubtably grand at one time - now it is more mediocre, tired and in need of overhaul. The facade is a bit weather worn but to be honest, 50 metres from the English Channel - it's hard to combat that. But the entrance is tatty - one of the glass doors is smashed and overall it is a bad start to entering hotel.

Staff were pleasant enough but nobody seems to be in charge so the overall effect is one of mild to medium chaos wherever one goes - check-in, breakfast....

Our first room was noisy - adjacent to some large, new industrial coolers so we asked to be moved - second room was nicer decor but noisier; I gave up at this point! Bed was comfortable and the room was pretty spacious.

Breakfast was good but chaotic - not enough staff for a very busy hotel. Also the chairs were very stained and the overall room not particularly clean.

Checkout they wanted to charge me £2.50 to pay by credit card for the room - I've stayed in hotels all over the world and never been charged a handling fee for room payment - especially as the hotel insist on credit card to secure the room - I felt sorry for the staff, every one was moaning about this!!! Get rid of it Devere, you're taking the mickey.

So overall - the hotel is OK and actually for £115 per night for two people including breakfast, in the middle of Brighton, I'd say it was very good value. But don't expect to be impressed with the hotel standard. It's a shame as this was once a grand hotel!

Thank you for your comments on Trip Advisor. I am sorry that you left feeling disappointed with your experience

In answer to some of the points that you raise we accept that the façade is a little weather worn but agree that it is a real challenge keeping ahead of nature’s furies! Our maintenance team work tirelessly to try and keep this beautiful old building looking it’s best (inside and out).

Occasionally jobs are created for them unexpectedly like the front door unfortunately being smashed at the time of your stay. We immediately addressed this, placing an order for a specialist piece of glass which is being made to fit and will be delivered and fitted on May 5th.
A very frustrating ordeal for us as a team.

One of the many things we pride ourselves in is the level of management cover we provide in the hotel and the interaction they ensure takes place with our guests. I am sorry if you didn’t feel this was apparent . Knowing that they all read these reports I am know that they will take your comments on board.

Finally I do not want to get drawn in to an online debate about our decision to raise a credit card charge if customers decide to pay these means. Needless to say we guarantee charges made to rooms during the stay by asking for a credit card on arrival but this does not mean we insist on the same card for payment on departure. If a customer decides to pay by debit card then no charge isn’t made because we are not charged a fee by the banks. We are keen to point out that the choice is entirely up to the customer.

Thank you again for writing

Regards

We stayed at the hotel over the Easter break. We found that the service when checking in was average. Room was not ready on check in, but to compensate we were offered a complimentary drink.
The rooms I must say was not up to the standard as when we previously stated at the hotel, but could have been cleaned much better.
The location was fantastic, we did eat out during our stay, and on returning to the hotel we found the bar staff to be very helpful. One bar member in particular Stuart, made our stay in the hotel bar very entertaining, he was very helpful, full of joy and always smiling. And if only other members of staff were as helpful as he was we would stay in The Grand on many more occasions, as would many other guests I presume.

I am sorry that you had cause to post mixed comments and I will take your constructive feedback on board and discuss it with the team - in particular about the interactions you had with staff who didn't leave a lasting impression

However I will also personally thank Stuart who clearly got it right and led by example as I am sure he will be very pleased to receive this feedback

This is our second visit here and we stayed for 2 nights this time on one of the De Vere's special offers. The room was a good size for a family of 4. The hotel is a little worn around the edges but at least it has an atmosphere to it which is more than I can say for some of the other large hotel chains. As with the last time we were here the breakfast was excellent.
We parked in the Churchill car park just around the corner 24hrs parking = £25

Room Tip: If you don't like lifts ask for the first floor
