Me and my family returned to this hotel after a decade, as found it did the job, during our first short stay, but this time we are horrified at what took place.
We stayed for just 1 night at an affordable price for us, but we were then robed out of a further £100 from the gentleman running the place!
We made full payment, prior to our visit using my debit card and was aware of Grand Hastings terms and conditions, which included a no smoking policy, myself, husband and 2 Young’s kids complied with this, but was then horrified to receive a letter from grand hotel in the post, that we had broken our terms and conditions through smoking in our hotel room, which was totally untrue as I’m a non smoker and my husband told the hotel he was a smoker, therefore he went outside of the hotel premises to smoke quite a few times and spoke to others from the hotel while doing so.
The letter sent to us from Grand Hastings Hotel, stated that we are responsible for extensive cleaning costs and what did we propose to do about it, in terms of compensation, we then replied to this letter, explaining that no one had smoked in the room and that there must had been some mistake, but before our reply was received by Grand Hastings, they had debited a further £100 from my debit card, without consent from me the card holder, therefore had saved my card details illegally and used it fraudulently.

We are still in shock from these actions, we wrote again to Grand Hotel, after seeking advice but the hotel refused to accept my letter, therefore settlement has not been resolved out of court.
My advice is to anyone thinking about staying in this hotel, run a mile, because if this is how they make there money, you could be there next victim.
And beware of the stairs leading up to the hotel rooms, very slanted and unstable, not to mention the dusky unaired smell.

We had a fantastic stay over the bank holiday. We (3 friends) had room 10 on the top floor. Seemed to have been recently refurbished as the shower seemed new and it was very clean and fresh feeling. We found Peter and his staff to be very friendly and helpful. Peter was the perfect host and was very personable. The hotel is a great base for getting around the area. We got parked outside the hotel all weekend for free. No complaints at all. People whinging about it being old fashioned and can’t cope with a staircase should stick to travel lodges!! Can also highly recommend the Italian restaurant next door.
We will definitely be back!! Thanks Peter and staff for a perfect weekend!! XX

I’ve stayed in better backpackers hostels, and for a fraction of the price. It’s advertised as having; parking, a bar and sea views. That’s all incorrect!! The building, rooms and few facilities are dated. The inclusive breakfast is not worth getting for, a bowl of Rice Krispies would have been more satisfactory. And finally, having to pay for the WiFi code???
A substandard version of Faulty Towers!!!!
Who’s awarded this place with 4 stars???

This was the only place we stayed in 6 weeks that we couldn't wait to get out of.
Our room had two single beds separated by a 2ft wall, the owner is creepy and the place smells damp.
First morning went went into the bowels of the building to an area that smelled of rats to stale toast, the rest of the breakfast was OK but we skipped it on the 3rd morning as we couldn't face the smelly dungeon again.
Would never ever stay there again.
If this seems unbelievable read a few of the previous reviews

The Grand looks okay from the outside, with its newly painted facade... On the inside, very, very spooky and, the smell of damp hits you immediately you enter the front door, The reception area is a verysmall area on a tiny first floor landing - complete with iron and ironing board behind the desk! We were in a room on the top floor, up some seriously dangerous stairs. We just prayed there would be no fire in the hotel - no visible means of escape other than THOSE stairs. The room itself was cramped but clean.
On to the breakfast - down in the very damp, smelly vasement dining room. Abby, who works like a trooper is charming. She is lovely to all of the guests and tries very hard to please everyone - especially the difficult to please owner, Peter. She was busy, so I helped myself to another coffee from the counter, which was alongside the help yourself cereals selection. no problem?? Big problem!! When she asked if we would like more coffee, I said I had helped myself, as she was busy in the kitchen. She was mortified and told me in very hushed tones not to let Peter know I had done that. I had obviously committed some cardinal sin. Wicked old me!! She is a lovely girl and it would appear, she is also quite unappreciated..
However, for anyone in need of a different experience - The Grand at Hastings fits the bill.
