We were visiting Hastings for the day and spotted The Master Fish Bar whilst riding the Miniature Railway. This was the perfect place for me and the boys to enjoy our lunch. When we arrived it was busy but staff welcomed us and sat us down quickly and without fuss. We made our order and staff were happy to check the food for ingredients - I am a Vegan so it’s so helpful when staff can find out about what is in the food itself. Food came very quickly despite it being busy and we found the restaurant clean and welcoming. The portions were big and apple juice nice and cold. Coffee was just perfect and the atmosphere friendly. We got chatting to some of the other customers as we ate our food, which was lovely. Staff efficiently tidied up after our meal and were happy to wait for payment whilst I took the boys to the toilet. We had a lovely window seat for our stay and there is plenty of space inside even when busy - one of the customers we spoke to was a wheelchair user. Highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner.

What a find, gluten free fish and chips at the seaside. Beautiful fresh fish in gluten free batter, chips and mushy peas. One very happy Coeliac!!

The Master Fish Bar is light and airy, with good views of Hastings' promenade, and attentive, knowledgeable and friendly staff.

But as nice as the ambience is, that's not the reason for this review. Simply put, the Master Fish Bar served our party of eight with the nicest fish and chips I have ever had the pleasure of eating. The fish is served in a light and crispy batter without ever being overcooked or greasy. Large portions of gorgeous-tasting fresh fish, too. Pan-fried fish is also available, as is gluten-free batter, along with the widest range of other gluten-free options I've ever come across in any similar establishment. The mushy peas were just the right consistency, and well seasoned without being overly salty. The chips were unforgettable, each one a masterpiece. I asked for their secrets, and was politely rebuffed with the statement that they were cooked quite simply in vegetable oil. In which case there must be some mysterious provenance to the potatoes as to say that they are crispy on the outside and fluffy and tasty on the inside would do them a gave injustice, they were simply life changing.

I live 300 miles away from this establishment, and it's now 3 weeks since my visit, but not a day goes by without thinking about the fish and chips at The Master Fish Bar. Out of this world, 11 out of 10, should have 3 Michelin stars, the finest chippy in England etc etc.

Visited on a wet and stormy Saturday. Very nice to have the choice of grilled as well as battered fish - beautifully cooked. We both agreed that the chips were among the best we’ve had in a long time, not at all greasy and piping hot. Friendly service too, will certainly be returning.
