Visited Hastings on a particularly grey and wet January afternoon. Parked at the opposite end of town and walked along the seafront as we wanted to ride the East Cliff Railway. The website indicated that the Cliff lift was operating but the miniature railway wasn't. The reverse was actually the case! We therefore boarded the delightful little train for a one-way journey to the Rock-a-Nore station. The loco was hauling covered carriages, therefore it gave us the opportunity to get out of the constant drizzle for a few minutes. My only criticism was that the seats had not been wiped, therefore we all had wet behinds when we got off! However, it didn't spoil our enjoyment of this well run attraction and we had a bit of a laugh as a result. The driver was courteous and friendly and had plenty of local knowledge. Having not been to Hastings for ten years or so, our aim is to return again in the summer to explore more that this lovely old town has to offer. A single ride was £2 each and return journeys were £3 with five people travelling for the price of four. In January the train stopped running at 16.30 Hrs. Children will love the locos, whistles and tunnels. A great little railway.
