“A blemish or two”
Reviewed 22 March 2012

We were upgraded to one of the top rooms; but the lighting arrangements were poor and we had to get help for the TV which was not on stand by. But continually ringing reception at 7.30pm for 20 minutes failed to get a response and we had to visit them. At dinner the waiter forgot our order for an apperitif and 10 minutes later had to be reminded. Otherwise a luxury experience; food excellent. Lucky to get a car park space.

Just had 3 night stay with my wife. Usual excellent room with good bed and plenty of room. We arrived just after the festival and the hotel atmosphere was buzzy!
We had dinner both Friday and Saturday night and both meals were very good and service was attentive without being overbearing.
Only one gripe and that was the fact that they did not replace shower gel/shampoo each day, come on HdV the economy cant be that bad!

So it was expensive to stay here for two nights. Was visiting Cheltenham for a weekend. BUT, it was worth it. Comfy bed - thick supportive mattress. DVD player in room - definitely good, especially at the price you're paying per night.

Restaurant – had dinner in here on the Friday night as had travelled from Berkshire and didn’t want to have to go out.
Food was okay, not bad. Some staff in restaurant not particularly attentive.

Room was on the smallish side – a double, but enough for our requirements.

Tea and coffee making facilities – cafetiere. Fresh milk on request if you call housekeeping. Very good.

Think there was an iron in the room, should anyone need if say staying for a wedding or special occasion.

Parking was either outside (gets busy due to non-hotel stayers coming to bar/restaurant) or around the side of the hotel. Note, no back entrance so you need to walk out of the bar park and to the front door – no good when it was peeing it down with rain like when we arrived or if you are disabled or pushing a pushchair / carrying alot of things.

Think there were some magazines in the hotel room too.

Romantic hotel, pricey though. One comment, reception staff could do with being less snobbish. Or snotty. They are working in the hotel industry so I hardly think being snobbish to a paying polite customer is considerate. No matter what job you do.

I stayed in both the La Grande Dame and Il Feudi San Gregario. The rooms are nice but on the pricey side service is good and the restaurant decent. La Grande Dame was a spacious room with 2 side by side claw foot tubs in the center of the room separated by plasma tvs on both sides and a living room. The normal rooms are very adequate modern and good Internet service vital as a business traveler. I rank this hotel number two on my favorite Cheltenham hotels

A very good two night deal in early february. Hotel very central, but away from the main trafficThe staff are outstanding - helpful, friendly and knowlegeable. Food excellent and an encyclopaedic wine list (on the expensive side). My wife had a severe back problem and had an excellent massage in the Hotel's Spa. Only criticism is the bedroom lighting which is really too dim, even when on full, to read by. That may be fine for amorous couples, but at our stage in life/marriage, was irritating. However, we would certainly go again

We spent 2 nights at HdV Cheltenham on a Friday and Saturday night. It was generally very good- a nice room with a spacious bathroom, rolltop bath, large enough for two comfortably should you wish. The bed was extremely comfortable, super king with good sheets of a high thread count and a soft duvet. Our only irritation was that the style the designers have chosen is one of a very subdued lighting- one might say it is very relaxing but we were longing for enough light by which to read. Even the bedside lamps were on a dimmer whose brightest setting was dim, and we emerged into the bright daylight blinking! But that was our only whinge. The food was great, the sommelier Roberto was splendid- he knew and loved his wines and suggested admirable food pairings. Don't miss out on the steak - it really was exceptional, as was the lamb. Plenty of good people watching to be done in the enjoyably appointed bar, although we had to request that the lighting wasn't dimmed again, so we could finish the paper! All in all, great fun and highly recommended, especially the Internet deals.

Lovely hotel a few minutes walk to the Montpellier area with restaurants and cafes. Slightly further to town but not a long walk by any means.

Our room was one with a free standing, roll top bath (Heresztyn room). No complaints. Bath fantastic and worth the extra money. Big bed, very comfortable. Walk on wet room style shower.

Staff very obliging. As real ale fans, very happy with large selection of bottled ales but they are a bit pricey!

Sky sports in the room a big bonus (Carling Cup final weekend!).
