We had a lovely Sunday lunch here during a recent weekend in Hereford. The restarant was almost full when we got there at 12:30 and there was a buzzing atmosphere without it being too noisy or busy.

The Sunday Lunch menu has several choices of different roasts and vegetarians are catered for. There is also an interesting range of drinks, both non alcoholic and boozy.

We had the lamb and the beef and it was one of the best Sunday lunches we have ever had. Both meats were very well prepared and flavoursome. However the aspect that set this apart from many other restaurants' offerings for us was the veg: both our roasts came with very generous side servings of perfectly cooked red cabbage, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puds with greens and carrots topped with crunchy hazelnuts, and an amazing smoked cauliflower cheese. We were so full up after this that we didn't have time for pud, although they did look nice.

The service was friendly and efficient, and I feel that the meal was good value for money for the quality of ingredients and the detail in the presentation.

The restaurant itself is pretty small, so I would definitely recommend booking.

Now this restaurant could easily be very good but on this my first visit they missed the mark big time....a specialist steak restaurant that charges between **£16.50 for rump and £27 for fillet** just for the meat (no sides like chips they cost extra) should be the best in town with the prices they charge.......

Unfortunately though out of 6 steaks they only got 1 correct.....

3 blue rumps came out medium rare
1 well done sirloin came out medium and with around 5oz of fat and griddle still attached (yet the rump was trimmed) £19 they charge for that sirloin (again no sides)

And 1 fillet (£27) ordered medium rare but way over cooked

Just let that sink in £27 for a steak £4 for sweet potato fries and £5 for some carrots and they can’t get the steak cooked properly

After we told the server he offered to replace the steak in 15 mins....a blue steak 15 mins?? Declining because we didn’t pay all that money to not eat together it was removed from the bill along with 1 other over cooked piece of beef, in fairness the waiter did try to make amends for the ruined food with a bottle of wine on the house.

However over all the night was ruined

6 starters
4 meals (- the 2 they deducted)
2 bottles wine
2 largers
And 2 cokes
= £209

Guys if your gonna charge those prices you simply have to be perfect and this was so far from perfect it’s was embarrassing......never again will I bother

We had a table booked for a Saturday night - had a courteous phone call an hour before to apologise but the table before us had arrived late due to a train delay and could we arrive a little later
A fabulous meal - superbly cooked ( all steaks) but came just as ordered - great atmosphere and will definitely be back

I don't live in Hereford anymore but this restaurant is a must each time I visit. This time we were lucky enough to come for the Sunday lunch and everything about it was delicious, the smoked cheese cauliflower!! As well as the food, the atmosphere was really lovely and the staff are so welcoming and professional.

Booked a table at The Bookshop for Sunday Lunch as we were staying just outside Hereford for the weekend. Was a bit dubious as we walked up to the door as it didn’t look like a restaurant and is situated down a side street. However, I’m happy to say that I was proved completely wrong! The staff were friendly and informative and knew their food. The small interior is well laid out with a steady stream of customers coming in. And the food ... I can honestly say that I have never had such a good Sunday lunch! Just the right portion size, and although the meat was amazing, even the side dishes of veg were superb which is often not the case. Will highly recommend to anyone who will listen to me and hope to be able to go back soon.
